I think the problem with that plan is that Woody is scared to hand out a big signing bonus guaranteed against injury after Leon going down last year and no new CBA next season.

That is definitely a valid point. However, if LaCanafora's report is true and Revis & Co are down from the Aso money, then this puts the ball back in the Jet's court. They should move on it.

Well Suggs had 8 sacks and Ray has 3.5 sacks. Very close to 09, Pace with 8 sacks and Harris with 5.5.

So I think we have that covered and then some with the new additions and the hope that VG will be at least a little effective. If need be we could get pressure and rely on our secondary as the great athletic unit they are.

I just have faith that Rex could turn out a winning "D" with our without Revis. Obviously easier with.

In negotiations, you never concede something without getting something else in return. Revis' camp gave up asking for Aso money, so Woody and Tanny have to give in on the guaranteed money.

Who cares if he's already a millionaire? If he thinks he deserves to get a certain amount then he will ask that amount. Are you going to never ask your boss for a raise just because you're already making enough to get by?

Are they looking to extend his deal for 3 years for $30 mil or are they looking to add $30 mil to the next three years of his current deal?

    $7 mil + $10 mil = $17 mil.

    1 + 10 + 11, in 2010.

But if you add a signing bonus in who knows.

Rex has now put Cro at Revis' spot and rotating Kyle and Dwight at the others. It's a sign of a long holdout.

Rex said he had Wilson playing at Left Corner (Revis' spot)

That's sort of missing the point, though. Suggs and Lewis were making their sacks based off of what Ngata, Gregg and Pryce/Edwards were doing in front of them, plus what they could do themselves.

For the Jets, it was Revis' coverage ability as well as Leonhard/Smith/Ihedigbo's ability to blitz and occupy extra blockers that helped get Pace and Harris their sacks, as well as their own talent and ability to create them.

The point is that the Jets aren't built with the same talent up front that the Ravens are. Ellis is probably a good fit for Trevor Pryce; there is no analog on the Jets for Haloti Ngata; Jenkins is coming of a massive knee injury and is being thought of as a two-down NT at this point since he's still recovering from the hamstring graft they used to repair his ACL; Pouha is amazing against the run but not that great against the pass, and everyone behind them is a question mark until they prove otherwise.

Ryan's in Baltimore had the talent up front to make up for the dwindling talent in the secondary that was everybody not named Ed Reed. However, if they lost Suggs, Lewis, or Ngata for any extended period of time, they would be in the same situation we are facing now.

My point being that the Jets simply don't have quality of talent up front to flip over to Rex's Baltimore scheme and expect the same amount of success that they experienced last season. Revis was the focal point of the defense last year and most of the success that the Jets had on D was predicated on Revis' ability to do exactly what he did last year. Any less and the D would have had a much more difficult time than they did.
I'm not trying to argue against that sentiment. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of talent on this defense right now that I wouldn't want to see the Jets trade away and they can still do a lot of damage without Revis.

However, losing the focal point of the defense isn't exactly going to let the Jets carry on with business as usual.

Rex has to go with who is there. Obviously we all know what Revis brings, but Rex is a good enough coach to make it work with who is there. I think Revis will eventually be in camp, but if he rolls an ankle or something it's not like our season ends there. We brought in Cromartie and drafted Wilson, Rex will make do with what he has for now.

The Jet beat writes covering it via twitter just said otherwise.

Maybe Tanny let Rex in on some news prior to practice.

La Canafora also was speculating about how much money the Jets have to hand out big checks right now with the facility, new stadium etc. And before everyone posts that Woody has lots of money, it's still a business.

It's that lack of a new CBA that's really throwing this whole thing for a loop.

Although I'm worried that this will be the case, why would he act any differently if Revis was going to show up tomorrow?

Cromartie is the best CB on the team until Revis shows up, and Lowery and Wilson are there so they need reps. Why would they let a rookie and a guy who until recently was supposed to move to safety take the #1 roll over a veteran and the best CB currently in TC?

No that was his plan, but I think they got some bad news. Maybe it's going to be a long holdout or something.

Interesting, but Cimini is such an anus. That guy is so negative. If the Jets signed Revis to a 3 yr deal, he'd say 'well why not 4? What are the Jets hiding?'

Wilson will get a lot of reps against Holmes, Edwards, and Cotchery in practice. The better Wilson looks, the sooner Revis will cave.

Rex has to do what Rex has to do but lets not kid ourselves here. Without 24 this defense is going to suffer big time. The reason they were able to do all the crazy blitzing is because they could cover. If anyone thinks Cro cover Moss, Johnson, Ocho, TO...etc, the way Revis did you're kidding yourself. We all know Lowery is no prize and while Wilson maybe good he's still going to be a rookie.

This team needs him...bad. End of story.
