While the likes of Mike Florio and others get hung up on the Jets HUGE signing of LT, and pretend that he is make or break for this team, and can't grasp that the Jets let go of their BACKUP RB and signed LT as a BACKUP.... As Jets fans we need to step back - YES - LT could possibly be done - NO I don't take the word of some newbe writer from Miami or Florio or even thousands of Charger fans.... I know few of us feared him last year as an opponent and I get we have the greatest OL going.... That said, He could be done And as optimistic as we want to be - Shonn Greene wasn't highly rated out of college and isn't proven to say the least and yeah, he's been dinged... Now we have McKnight.... MY ANSWER has been this - IMO, the Jets feel their OL is Plug and Play - and I agree with this way of building a team - Build the OL and let the RB chips fall where they may - Parcells has stated he believes RB's should not get a huge portion of $$$$ and RB's are a dime a dozen these days..... I think the Jets FO can pump up LT and Greene all they want knowing that IF desperate they could plug in someone off the wire... WHO COULD THIS BE???????????? Listening to a Radio Show From FBG's last night they reiterated the same thing and stated that Cedric Benson was pretty much plucked from the scrap heap.... The Jets 2010 leading rusher might not even be on the team right now - THAT is the nature of the NFL today. So WHO is out there... Brian Westbrook? Lendalle White?
Title change: Possibly the Worst Thread of the Week ...and we still have the rest of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Yeah i didn't get past greene wasn't highly rated out of college. The jets had him as their number one back in the draft and were shocked that he was available at the start of day 2.
lol. let's take this thread seriously for 1 second. LenDale White???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? He got cut by the fucking SEAHAWKS. There is SOMETHING obviously very wrong with him. (Suspended 4 games, and is a fat fuck) Brian WestBrook?????? Amazing player, but he cannot play anymore.
are you serious dude???? hes too old!!! How about we resign Curtis Martin!!!!!!!!! :breakdance: :martin:
Everyone needs to chill on the "we need another RB" BS. We have a young bruiser with speed, a Hall-of-Fame RB playing with a chip on his shoulder and a dynamic (if out of shape) 3rd down back that can take it to the house at any point. WE ARE FINE! So STOP!
I don't think we need another big name guy or anything, but I think it we should be holding 4th RB on the roster. Its better to have a guy at training camp working with the team and knowing the system than just picking up FA midseason.
On this team, roster spots are extremely limited with the talent we have on this team. There will be a lot of guys who dont make this team that we were all pulling for and adding another RB will only add to another player we want to be cut. there's a reason we have a practice squad------>that 4th RB you speak of.
WOW....Ok then. Surprising responses. What I meant was Greene wasn't seen as a top 3 RB. Greene is unproven for the long haul and has been dinged.... I'll bump this thread when / if one of LT or Greene get dinged and we're all looking for the next RB.
If Chris Johnson gets dinged the Titans are in trouble. Yes we know Greene runs physical and is more likely to get injured. Lets see him get injured first. He bruised his ribs(I believe) in the AFC championship game and people just assume he's injury prone. If Greene plays 16 games I have no doubts that he's an elite top 5 RB in the NFL.
As important as the running game is to this team, premise of this thread doesn't concern me as much as the OP. Runningback - it's a replaceable position. It's excellent to have a hammer like Shonn Greene softening the linebackers, but if our O-line can make a slightly above average compiler like Thomas Jones top 5 in rushing stats, I think the Jets can afford to take a chance on the current lineup. Not too many RBs are able to have the kind of rebirth that Tiki Barber had, but if I were going to gamble on one player in this league to do it, that guy is Tomlinson. He's not going to be old LT, but he's going to be much more effective for this team than he was in San Diego the past couple of seasons. And he can get open for a screen. Runningback depth can be found via practice squads. Derrick Ward.
Greene was a better 40 time away from being a solid first round pick. Anyone who watched film of him coming out knew that he was going to be something special. It remains to be seen whether he can be healthy or not, but the guy is a rare combination of size and football speed... and patience too! So, I agree that we could use another RB... but Greene is going to be the man for years.
