when a team invests as much money in a franchise QB that we did, you're not looking to have a qb competition... you're looking to have someone guide your million dollar man. this is what brunell's job will be. "hire him as a coach" ... we did. its just he'll be wearing a uni too.
Clemens cannot teach Sanchez anything he already has. Kellen Clemens sucks. He cant even hold a football for a field-goal properly. Screw him. Brunell would preform better as the 2nd QB than Clemens. Brunell is going to help the Jets craft Sanchez into a great QB.
I think the only reason people are freaking out a little over this is because we still don't have someone that can lead us to a Superbowl if Sanchez goes down. The fact is, almost no teams have a backup who can win them a Superbowl. This team may be built around the defense and running game, but it's nearly impossible to beat the elite teams these days without being able to move the ball through the air when necessary. Bulger would have been a nice backup to get, but getting Brunell to mentor Sanchez is just a solid move for the future of the franchise.
Why keep a guy who doesn't want to be a back-up anymore? http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/news/story?id=5069633 ""There's no future for me here starting, that's clear," Clemens said. "There's a future for one guy here to star and play and that's Mark [Sanchez], and that's why they drafted him. And he's a very talented quarterback. So I'm not at the point where I'm willing to give up my dream of having a chance to play and start."" I'd rather have a guy who wants to be here rather than one who doesn't. BTW - O'Connell has played in a couple of games
O'Connell is 4/6 23 yards in his career. I don't think that counts as "playing in a couple of games".
Guy said he never played a NFL down and O'Connell did that in two career games which last I heard is a couple. So yes he did play in a couple of games which is more than 0.
If Brunell is only here to coach, why put him in a uniform and take up a roster spot? If he has to, he will play. I don't expect much from him if he does, though. Sanchez better stay healthy
I think Brunnel is going to be a good mentor, but I hope he will never have to start. Anyone want to see how he played the last time he started - watch the Saints last regular season game where the Saints rested Brees. I think that game spelled the end of Brunnels time with that team
I know we read that some players weren't too thrilled with bringing Brunell in and that he's so old.. but check out what Braylon Edwards tweeted today.. talk about no respect haha OfficialBraylon Good Morning World! So my locker is right next to mark brunells I thought 1 of the coaches fathers were asking me a question lol #OldMan LOL
I heard on WFAN last night by a Jets beat writer (peter scwhartz?>) THAT Mark Sanchez, and Mark Brunell drove together from Florham park to TC. Brunell shared stories from his career to Sanchez on the ride up.
