Damn. How did I miss that signing?... I'll shut up about Rhodes now. PFF's Safety rankings seem to be a little messed up. But I agree that would be an upgrade over Rhodes. (can't post the link...post count not high enough) I still don't think the defense can duplicate what it did a year ago. JT will not provide much extra pass rush from last year. I was actually disappointed last year in his inability to get off the line quickly. He's much stouter against the run than he used to be though. And I've made my case about Cromartie. No sense in re-having the discussion. I didn't realize you guys had singed Pool. That said I take back what I said about being worse defensively. But I don't think you are better, and I do think that they D will have taken a step back if you guys do cut Shaun Ellis.
Nobody can really comment on how good this defense will be...until the games are played obviously. But basing the assumption on last season's play and the players we added in the offseason...to say we didn't get better...is pretty stupid. I won't go back in the thread to read about your assinine analysis on Cromartie either....i can just imagine the poppycock you came up with regarding that upgrade. That's like me saying your Receiving corps didn't get better with the addition of B.Marshall.
This isn't even just about additions either. This is about year 2 of a system, and a rediculously complicated system at that. To be #1 in a brand-new scheme is almost unheard of, but we did it anyway. Last year this was Rex Ryan's D. Now it's the Jets D.
So Cromartie is as good a CB as Marshall is a WR? Say what? Cromartie does not match up well against the #2's of the AFC East, (Bess, Welker, Edlemen, Holt, Cam)...all those short/intermediate route running-specialist type guys. I can see teams throwing his way a lot and getting 7-8 yards a pop with consistency.
the fuck? where did i say Cro was as good as Marshall? I said the addition of the 2 players to their respective teams are considered improvements of what they had the previous season. Cromartie is a man-to-man cover corner......i hope you guys throw at him a lot....I like watching our D cause turnovers.
You compared the trade for Cromartie to the trade for Marshall Miami made...getting Brandon was a much bigger acquisition than NY getting AC. But that's besides the point. And why do you expect Cromartie to be this turnover machine? He had ONE good season thus far. That's it. The last 2 years he has been God awful. He's a good downfield cover guy as his ball skills and athleticism take over, but short/intermediate stuff he struggles with and he is not a very reliable tackler after the catch.
Cromartie >> Lowery or Sheppard....that was my first point. And once again...i never compared the acquisitions....i said Cromartie was an improvement to our secondary as Marshall is an improvement to your WR corps. I'm not comparing stats, or signing impact.....just saying that each was an improvement. Because you said Cro would make our defense take a step back....which is hilarious. If i could....i'd get out the whiteboard and draw some stick figures to better explain it to you....
And to back that up with some stats, Cromartie has allowed a higher Comp. % to his WR than Lowry the last 2 years straight, and both seasons allowed a higher % than Sheppard did last season. Again, you can throw short/intermediate on Cromartie. NE and Miami should have success against him.
Yeah but Cro sucks and we just cut Shaun Ellis, so we're screwed. Oh yeah and we didn't sign Wilson yet so he's not gonna be on the field. Worst offseason collapse...ever.
speculate all you want....Cromartie won't be used the same way that idiot Norv Turner tried to......I'm fairly confident Rex will correctly utilize Cromartie's talent.
I said IF you cut Ellis, and I've stated multiple times I think Wilson is a fine CB. The next Asante Samual.
You guys said the same thing about Lito Sheppard. Ryan was supposed to figure out how to utilize Sheppard in a way that it would bring back his All Pro caliber form.
Right so we'll have Lowery cover underneath. Or Pool. Or Leonard. Or Wilson. Or Warren. Or Smith. Best secondary in the league. Oh yeah and the deepest too
Exactly right. Wilson is also more physical at the line and when the ball is in the air. Chris Chambers used to burn Samual time after time in the redzone. Wilson isn't the same type of CB that you can just abuse with physicality.
We're not talking about Sheppard.....2 different players with different skillsets. I guess I can bring up what a piece of crap John Beck turned out to be.....you know....since it's relevant to the conversation too
Lol. Go ahead. If we didn't have Chad, I'd be pissed. But I couldn't care less about that. Plus I could go ahead and mention what a piece of crap Gholston turned out to be. To defend Beck though, he never got a shot. He was thrown onto the field on a 1-15 team and played admirably. Then Parcells, Ireland and Coach came in, drafted Henne, and you knew that was the end of that. Then he has the injury last year and gets stuck behind Flacco on the depth chart in Baltimore. Tough luck I guess.
