Kerry Rhodes played like a fag....Poole at least will try and kill someone.....the ghost may surprise at his old position......i cant figure out how an offense coordinator will attempt to pass on Revis/Cromartie/Wilson other than scream " JUST GET THE F*CK OPEN!!!!" to his receivers

Man, I really hope this team lives up to this hype. This is getting ridiculous.

Idk about the actual numbers but the Jets play a lot of 4-3, almost as much as 3-4 I'd say.

So Jenkins coming off injury is worse than having him basically at all last season? It's not like we had him for 16 games and he got hurt in the playoffs. Fail one.

If you had a real clue about the team that you're speaking, you'd know that Rhodes was invisible for the first 2/3 of the season and it wasn't until he was benched that he actually contributed. Fail two.

Finally, Cro will be in man coverage which is his strength, and if your somehow insinuating that he'll have trouble covering Devon Bess, you're way more clueless than I initially thought. And if Welker (coming off a knee injury) is in the slot most likely our first round pick this season, you know, arguably the best cover corner in the draft will be covering Welker and the 'beast' that is Devon Bess. To say that he won't be an upgrade of Lito Sheppard, even healthy, is wrong. Lito was benched in the playoffs because he was god awful. Fail three.

To surmise, all 3 of your points are basically a clueless fin fan hoping his ill conceived logic will somehow come true...

For the love of God we all know (Jets fans and haters alike) this is the dumbest thread ever.

We are not a dominant defense. Yet.
We are certainly not a historic defense. Yet.

Stop fucking jinxing us. Can we make it to training camp at least before we get anointed as the fucking Steel Curtian?

I think it's a real possibility if some players live up to their billing and Rex continues to push the envelope.

    Keys:
    1) Will Cromartie be trusted in man coverage w/no safety help against #2's? If so that gives Rex another player to do what he pleases with. We saw how well he used that extra player Revis gave him. This could allow him to be creative with personnel packages including 4 safeties (Smith, Lowery).
    2) Can they consistently stop the run to setup passing situations? There were a few times last season we were beat up in the run game. That cannot continue to happen if they want a dominant defense amongst the best ever.
    3) Can Wilson step in and compete against the great NFL slot receivers? Early in the season I suspect he'll be attacked often. Whether he steps up or not could be the difference between good defense and great defense. Strong as your weakest link theory.
    4) Will Rex continue to push the envelope and do things differently than last season? Teams will have new ways to attack what the Jets did last season. If Rex and Pettine continue to change, that shouldn't be an issue.

He's (not really) a Steelers fan. :steelers:

This thread is silly in July. Why are we setting the bar at this level?

Shouldn't this type of argument occur AFTER the season has started and there is some factual data to base the assumptions on?

I think the only thing we can all agree on (except the Fish fans of course) is that the defense is set up to have a big season and should be one of the better units in the league.

Well, the Bears D of the mid-80's was pretty much the modern day top D I can think of. You guys don't quite stack up to them, but you guys are solid.

This guy lost all credibility to his football knowledge when he said we took a step back when we lost Kerry Rhodes lol. Poor little man.

If this d can hold up against the run, stop the pass and keep the opponents from scoring then I say absolutely they can be the greatest defense in the history

I'll be satisfied if they repeat last year's defensive performance minus the 4th quarter collapses (JAX, ATL, MIA).

Getting ridiculous? We are past that point. How can this team live up to the hype unless they go 19-0 and score 30 points a game and give up 10 per game. I mean, do we have to be an all time anything. Lets win the division and get home field advantage

    I agree I agree I agree

In other news my avatar fucking rules

Seriously though, were going to be a good defense we will stop the pass, we'll do what we have to do to win games. Plain and Simple.

I agree with all of this and would add can the Jets get consistent pressure when only rushing four? we know they will create havoc with rex's blitzes but even rex can't blitz in every passing situation.

The biggest issue that in my opinion will make or break our defense this year is going to be our running game and to a lesser extent our passing game.

If our offense cant keep our defense off the field theyre eventually going to get worn down and collapse.

Threads like these piss me off.... We should hope our defense remains at #1 overall in the NFL (I think they can/will) before worrying about breaking records and shit. People are getting way ahead of themselves with this kind of talk, especially in such a pass-happy league and with the tough ass schedule we have in 2010.
