So in my regular Yahoo FF leagues I need some advice. At what round do you guys think I should draft the Jets defense?

Every year I usually draft a defense team in the later rounds because defenses vary so much from year to year and I can pick them up off the wire.

But this year the Jets D should be pretty awesome and I'm willing to take a risk and draft higher for it. There are 15 rounds in my league. I'm thinking of taking Jets D around round 6 or 7.

    What do y'all think?

Well it really depends how many teams there are and how many points your defenses are capable of in your league.

On that note, if it's about average and you have 8-10 teams in your league I would say rounds 6-7 to be safe. If you have 12-16 teams in your league I would say around round 5 at the lowest.

I won't touch a defense until the end of the 7th at the earliest. The Jets may not give up a lot of yards or points, but last year they didn't score many fantasy points either. They didn't get many sacks and they didn't get many takeaways or TDs.

I'm expecting the Jets D to score more than last year with the additions of Cromartie, Wilson and Taylor (more picks and sacks hopefully), but I still wouldn't reach too far for them.

I prefer to grab defenses week to week based on who they are playing. The Jets D might be the best, but I would still be hesitant starting them against teams like the Packers, Vikings, Pats, or Texans.

It really does depend on your scoring system and amount of teams though. I play in a standard scoring yahoo league with 12 teams, and I probably will only grab the Jets if they're available in the 8th.

I would not take the risk until at least the 7th round. We have guys in our league that fall for the hot defense every year and get burned by it. Defensive points differ greatly year to year. Take for example NO had a great scoring d last year but not the year before. I picked NO off waivers around week 3.

The key is to go with a Kicker in Round 1.

lol a guy in my league last year accidentally did that and the kicker did pretty well.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I have 10 teams in my league and they are very competitive. I think I'll go for the Jets D in the 7th unless there's someone else there with great value.

And to add to my previous post, if the Jets don't fall to me in the 8th I probably won't even touch another defense until the 11th or 12th round. After the Jets it's really a bit of a tossup on who the best fantasy Ds will be.

I play in an 8 team league and 6 teams are die hard Jets fans. It will be hard to get the Jets defense.

It rally depends on a few things, if its random fans you can grab them in the 7th or 8, unless someone wants to really kill thier depth for a defense. If its a group of Jets fans, good luck on them lasting to your pick in the 7th. Fan based leagues are a bitch to get players from your own team.

If you want to win don't touch a D too early. I most often try to look a week or two ahead and rotate to defense that are coming up against real bad teams.

The key to drafting is to not overpay. Take a solid WR/RB/TE and wait for a D until the last 2 rounds. There will always be surprise teams on the WW as the season goes along. Last year, it was the 49ers, who I believe ended up as the #1 overall fantasy D.

Very true, the league champ in my league last year just used waiver wire for D's and it worked very well for him.

On that note there are always waiver wire Rb's thru the season so getting two rb's in the first 3-4 rounds is not a wise move imo. I traded Ocho and D Jack for MJD last year and pickd up Rice pre-season. It worked just fine obviously.

LOL I picked him up in the 8th round in a 10 team dynasty league with the 10th pick. That trade and frank gore in the first along with trading for Aaron Rodgers pretty much set me up to be a force for the next 5 years to come at least. We get 3 keepers at the end of the year so granted I'll have to do massive research on WR every year but with those 3 it'll be worth it.
