they've gotta get this shit done. Pay the man what he wants his contribution to our D is about as indispensable as any one player can be
The Falcons had contractual problems with Sanders. Sound familiar? He ended up signing with the 49ers for just one year if I recall. Jerry Rice had his feelings hurt because the SF media gave Sanders too much credit for the Super Bowl win that season. Sanders left town after that.
It's hard to measure the effect that Deion Sanders had on the Super Bowl wining teams he played for, mainly because he sought out very good teams that had already won Super Bowls to play on. So the 49ers got him for one Super Bowl after winning two others fairly recently and the Cowboys got him for one Super Bowl after winning two others fairly recently, etc. He was really good at picking his teams, and he definitely helped them a lot but he did not make them Super Bowl winning franchises, because they were already dynasties when he showed up. The Falcons big mistake was not letting Deion Sanders go, it was letting Brett Favre go.
I remember a great press conference Rice gave once complaining about how little respect the leftover guys got from the media. "You guys don't give Merton Hanks any respect! And it pisses me off."
I was actually going to bring that up. Look at what Rex did to this team in one year, #1 D, AFC Championship game. You don't see Rex begging for more, and if it weren't for Rex, Revis would not be in this position. Sure he'd be good but Rex put him over the top.
We need to pay revis what he wants so what if we lose any of the 4 core it a lot easier to replace a lb,ol then it is to replace a shut down cb.
no it isn't. the disparity between a good offensive lineman, especially center, and the best offensive lineman, especially center, is much greater than the drop off from a lockdown corner and a very good one. a lockdown corner's skills are only directly relevant on half of the plays -- pass plays, because even decent corners in pass protection can be good against the run, but a center and o lineman are vital to every single play where the offense runs a play. to argue otherwise is plain f'ing stupid.
Really? tell me which team will win more games....one with a stout oline or one with a shutdown cornerback? now keep in mind....Dunta Robinson, Nate Clements, Champ Bailey, Nnamdi Asomugha were all playing golf in January. C.Woodson and Revis were the only exceptions. Indy, the Jets, Minny and New Orleans all have stout olines.....and all were in the final 4 last season. EDIT: I still believe Revis is a vital part of this team...that's not the argument....but saying OL players are much easier to replace...is fucking retarded.
Why is it when the Jets deal with contract situations, its always 'ugly'. For fuck sake, just sit down and sort this shit out out.
my point is we wont lose both ol just maybe one. I'm not saying revis isn't being unfair but if i had to choose I would take revis over mangold or dbrick. I aways hear D win SB
losing Mangold or Brick isn't even fathomable.....Sanchez's development would suffer greatly if we lost either of those guys. Revis is important to the defense....and I believe he'll be signed long term by the Jets in the near future....but not at the expense of our oline. Our oline is vital to the run game, the protection of our franchise QB, and the offense in general.
It's really a problem without a CBA. How much do you pay them? I see fools here saying give them what they want. And then what? Cut them next year because the cap is 10 million less than it was in '09? Don't laugh, more than half the owners want it reduced, not increased and they are perfectly willing to lock them out to get it.
