http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/13493116/league-needs-to-make-changes-do-away-with-nonsense I normally don't care for Judge's articles, or list "articles" in general, but damn, I couldn't agree more with all but one of these points. The one exception would be (no. 2) TNF. If both teams have equal amount of time to rest (i.e. 4 days), then I think it's fair. Plus, who doesn't love having nothing to do on Thursday, and then realizing "oh s***!, TNF is on tonight!". I would add to this list, the cancer-awareness gear teams have to wear. Was it all of October we wore that pink crap last season?! One game I can barely take. That's it, though. Advertise for it, do a halftime show, put the "Flight Crew" in it pink ribbon outfits, whatever, but quit making players wear pink crap. It looks ridiculous. Gang Green only!
There is nothing wrong with... 3. Throwback uniforms 6. Flyovers 7. Warren Sapp on the NFL Network 10. Regular-season OT rules What is wrong with wearing throwback dreads? After seeing some of the throwback uniforms I think most would come to the conclusion that some teams should do it, some teams shouldn't. However, there is nothing wrong with honoring a part of a franchise's history. Infact, the current Regular Season rules should still be in place for the Postseason, but of course the NFL has to try to fix something that simply isn't broken. They just had to de-value the importance of defense. Sapp is the biggest concern? He adds more than Jamie Dukes. Anyways, flyovers I agree are a bit over-done nowaday, but for Week 1 and Postseason games, what is wrong with a flyover? Absolutely nothing.
For one game they definitely should have the pink gloves, cleats, wristbands, hats on the sideline, etc. But for a month? I agree, it's a bit over kill. Keep the women's breast cancer logo on the field on each 25 yard line, or something of that matter, but the players shouldn't be in pink for more than a single game.
Spare me the righteous digs. I'm not against the cause, just this silly way the NFL is going about promoting it. There's no need to have these guys wearing pink for a whole month of every season. One game is more than enough.
Agreed... As for the throwback It's only a money scam... My team is green and white, why should I cheer for something different... those colors belong to our idea of team. Make them wear older uniforms if you want but not the uni's of another football team (the Titans)!!!
3. Some throwbacks aren't horrific, others are. I've gotten used to ours, but some (Chargers/Broncos) are just terrible to look at. 6. I agree with the author, they should be saved for special occasions/games. It just make them more special. 7. Sapp is a terrible "analyst". He breaks nothing down on film, and seems to always be preoccupied with the drama of a topic, instead of the facts that are behind it. He also gets visibly aggressive if anyone challenges him on a topic. One time, I thought he was going to reach over and kill Jamie Dukes for disagreeing with him. Eisen is the only thing keeping it from getting awkward. 10. I'm just of the opinion that the rules should be the same across the board. Also, Dukes >>> Sapp. Sapp is, as the author stated, nothing more than a thug.
How does it impact YOU if they have pink on their cleats for a month? Why would you possibly care? The players that wore other pink accessories (gloves, armbands, etc.) did so because they wanted to. It (the pink cleats, etc.) helped raise money and awareness for a very important cause. How could that possibly be a bad thing?
Because I care about my team colors. Because that Green and White uniform means a lot to me. And because I hate having to try and figure out which team is which every time I go to a game or watch it on TV. And saying they wore it because "they wanted to" is like believing OTAs are really voluntary. Fact is, you come off like an a** if you don't participate. I'm not saying they wouldn't have chosen to do it otherwise, but let's not pretend it's an easy choice. How exactly did all this extra (wasted, mind you, after Oct.) pink gear help raise money in any way, that simply sticking promos up or doing some kind of ceremony/advertisements, wouldn't have? And I never said it was a bad thing. I said it was unnecessary, especially for a whole month.
The league made it mandatory for 1 game, the players CHOSE to do it every other time. And if a little pink throws you off so much you can't identify which team you like, you have more issues then you're bringing up.
If you have such strong feelings about your teams colors, you seriously need to evaluate yourself. Do you have more than 3 pieces of Jets memorabilia in your house? Do you own more than 3 jerseys? Do you own the same jersey in multiple colors? If you answered yes to any of these, you need to begin to dial back your fanhood, because it's borderline clinical. 1.The annual Favre carousel is great. 2.Thursday night football is great 3.Throwbacks are great. 4.I have no strong opinion on regular season games overseas as long as it stays very limited. 5.Who goes to preseason game? They are extending reg. season anyway. Should take care of this issue 6.No opinion on flyovers 7.No opinion on Sapp. I have Collinsworth with a passion though. 8.LOL 9.No real opinion on coaches halftime interviews 10.I change my opinion on this like too often to comment. The one thing that needs serious fixing is the playoff format. The fact that the Indianapolis Colts as a 12-4 team had to travel to San Diego (an 8-8 team) for the wildcard round a couple of years ago is absurd. Home field based on record, not division placement.
Did it somehow affect the game? Did it hurt your eyes? The wearing of pink for the month was a month there was extra awareness of the cause and possibly raised more money for cancer research. With so much that you could bitch about you pick this?
Yep, I am sure the players that have wives, mothers, sisters, etc. who are breast cancer survivors had to be forced to wear the pink. I really doubt those that don't know anyone that has had breast cancer had any problem with it either. Wearing pink made it much more visible unless you are the type of person that pays more attention to commercials or ceremonies rather than the game.
Get off your horse. This topic has gotten blown out of proportion by posters, like yourself, clearly of the highest morality. My hat is off to you. How much money was it again you donated to the cause? My point was: a month was too long, one game was enough. It's not being fanatical to prefer your team wear it's own uniform colors. I'll leave it at that. Enjoy the article.
You bring up how it bothered you that the team wore pink wristbands or cleats and then get defensive when others have a problem with that? It's of no concern to you how much I donate to any particular cause and why would that matter anyway? Do you look down on people that can not give as much as you? As in any situation people do what they can or want to and that is what the league did.
The annual Brett Favre speculation - Played out, next! Thursday Night Football - Hate it!! I like my football on Sunday and Monday. Throwback uniforms - Dislike goin to the game wearing green only to root for a team wearing blue and gold. The white away jersey is pretty nice though. Regular-season games overseas - Let England watch on TV. They like soccer anyway. Apologies to the oversees fans but we here hate losing a home game to Europe. Charging regular-season prices for preseason games - Hate this!!!!! Specifically since I have to pay for them every year. Flyovers - Love them. Will like them even more that my new seats will enable me to practically shake hands with the pilot but that is another story. Warren Sapp on the NFL Network - I change the channel! The phrase "commitment to excellence" in connection with the Oakland Raiders - Funny shit that makes everyone smirk when they say it but it is part of their legacy. Coaches' halftime interviews - Once in a blue moon you get a ticked off coach say something silly but otherwise it's a vanilla interview. Regular-season OT rules - Fine by me. Worked for years.
Favre watch is funny only when Eisen overdoes it because he knows how ridiculous it is. I like Thursday night football because I can see it on NFLN. 3-5 suck. I agree with that. Flyovers are awesome no matter how many times you see it. I don't mind Sapp. Whatever. He's gotten better since his first days on NFLN. Raiders suck. The final two are fine by me. Clark Judge is just never good.
