Does anyone think Revis would agree to a deal like that? I think that's extremely fair of a deal, he'll get another contract when he's 30 years old
But when does Revis decide to start playing? Just because the front office forces Revis to accept and honor his current contract, it doesn't mean we will have the 2009 Top-Corner Darelle Revis. You want players to be happy, and you have to think that this isn't going to sit nicely with Revis. Hopefully has a great character, and doesn't present some ridiculous altimatum to the Jets. The last thing I want to read is "Revis threatens to sit out season, unless contract re-negotiations take place". I know there are incentives in the contract, and if his play declines, his pay declines. But still. I want to see 09 Revis again.
Could they front-load that anymore? I see the breakdown in the article, and see that it already has a high 1st year salary and then a standard back-loaded trend, but with 2010 and the uncapped situation, could they free up cap room over the next few seasons like that. But either way i think that is a solid deal, and will solidify a realistic number for corner re-signings in the future, instead of that ridiculous Nnamdi deal.
If he doesn't want to play hard for this team regardless of contract situations, then he doesn't deserve to be on the team and is an absolute bad example for the team and would have to potentially go, if he doesn't want to play shutdown corner because of a contract he shouldn't be here any less then Sherry Rhodes It would be the best situation he gets paid again at 30, and he'll retire as a Jet and get his money, why the helllll not
and if Revis decides to go that route (very unlikely), he is just hurting his next contract when the time comes. Teams aren't going to want to invest a lot of money into a player who has shown that he won't try his hardest, or potentially sit out, if he's not happy with the amount of money he's getting.
Tannenbaum said about 10 times yesterday that they wanted to get a FAIR DEAL done and this article explains perfectly why What I don't understand is... what does Revis mean when he says he wants to be the highest paid CB in the NFL? As total money in the contract or per year? He has to understand the Jets own his balls for 1 mill this year and 5 next year. If he plays 1 year at 1 mill + 5 at 16 it's the same as getting 13.5 over 6 years... with the exception that you make your money faster. If he wants 15+ staring THIS year he'll get nowhere.
Also guys click the link, it's got ALOT on the jets cap hits free agents and updates daily. Definitely check it out after you read the article
at the end of the day this is wats up. he's not gonna just hold out cuz if he want things to get that ugly then he'll just make no money til after 2012. Jets got a good hold on him. Revis is one hell of an asset to have, but Rex Ryan has been the BEST in the business for over a decade now, he can make up for his star corner through his schemes. I find it hard that the jets front office would be dumb enough to give him 15 mill a year. Aso was OVERPAID to stay in oakland. Not only that, but Revis played at the level that he did last year for only ONE YEAR. Aso's been on that level since '06. If Revis replicates his '09 season in '10 and '11 then he's got a case to be highest paid corner.
Great article, and great point Mambo. I mean at the end of the day, he could get more money over a longer period, but the Aso contract is straight up bat shit insane. Maybe take Aso's annual # and avg it out with the next 4 corners to bring it down a bit? Who knows. I really don't think there's any need to panic. There's always pissing match period in negotiations. At least it's now, there's time to work it out, plus it gives all of us something to talk about.
Great to hear man  this site will definitely come in handy when we talk about players contracts and impacts on our payroll. Btw did you use this site for your recent thread? It was very good and detailed and wondering if you used any info from the site.
