My sources are telling me that it was a performance-based deal that all Jets cornerbacks are being signed to. Basically it requires creating a farm of genetically connected potential cornerbacks for the team to pick from through prodigious breeding. Two million per kid. Revis is insulted by being paid THAT much less than A-Cro.
mike t and woody johnson should be on there knees giving revis whatever he wants he is a once in a lifetime talent on a team that has had very few he is a premier corner on the best defense in football he is crucial to the whole defense without him covering the best reciever the blitzes and cover packages r all out of wack woody johnson has a ton of money, he should spent it wisely this is the same idiot who paid brett favre 12 million to limp around for a season time to open the pocket book and get this done
It is for Revis. He wants to be the highest paid CB in football and he says the Jets said that they would do that for him. He is the best CB in football and he should be rewarded as such. Nnamdi Asomougha signed a 3 year, $45 million extenstion with Oakland recently therefore Revis is going to be looking for around $16 million a year. $10 million would be a lowball offer in this situation.
I would. Only 2/3rds of what the highest paid CB is getting? Offering something that isnt even close to the highest paid CB is low balling. If they came with a similar offer as to what Namdi got, then no, that wouldnt be a low ball. But 10mil a year when Namdi makes 15mil? Thats a low ball...
Found this tweet from another Jets fan on Twitter interesting, and true... "Every year another veteran player says the #Jets lied and low balled them. Baker, Kendall, Coles, Leon, and now Revis. Never ends."
OK. Now it's looking stupid. How many players are we going to see in the locker room pissed off about their contracts over the next two years? I like the talent that Tannenbaum brought in but it's getting pretty annoying hearing about players killed in contract negotiations every fucking offseason. It was tolerable when it was middling players with overblown opinions of their worth (Baker) or aging veterans with diminished talent (Kendall) but when it's fan-favorite, impact players, it starts getting really fucking annoying.
Everyone's going to hold out, Mangold, Harris, Revis not to sound pessimistic This is a true test though for these guys, is it REALLY for the money or is it to win the SB with these players ... obviously for Revis he's a great player granted but he's all about the money, absolutely ... at this point anyone that holds out on a potential SB season doesn't care about the team, only themselves, Revis was like that from day 1, it's such bullshit
He's looking for a contract better than Asomugha's($16.2mil/year). Yet another reason to hate Al Davis.
... and you could say that any team that doesnt want to reward/lock-up such a valuable player and create the distraction in the first place doesnt care about the player...
"I've given up on creating a good team, so I'm just gonna play spoiler with other teams. F-you Jets!"
Al Davis is a psychopath and came up with some hair brained scheme to pay Aso the average of top three Quarterbacks!!??? WTF - nothing like throwing the level playing field into an uproar.
Pretty much ... Baker, Kendall, Coles those 3 weren't worth the cash, and now look at them, they are either a FA and teams aren't looking to pick them up or there not in the league at all, Revis man up dude don't be like them
...on the other hand, the Patriots have been doing this for years and still managed to hold on to their top spot in the division. I don't think they had one defensive star get a contract extension that didn't include a TC holdout, and that was when they were at their peak. I can look the other way if it doesn't damage the competitiveness of the team, but if we start hearing "trade me" from any of our big name players then I think it will turn into the prelude to a huge problem.
The thing that sucks about Aso's contract is that it was only a 3-year deal. If the Raiders signed him to 5-6 years (what Revis is probably looking for) the per year number would probably be much lower. It's a tough situation for the Jets to be in, since so many players have contracts coming up. Revis can be kept on the Jets for the next 3 seasons at around $21 million total. The Jets could then use the franchise tag on Revis to keep him an additional season. A lot of money would be saved in this situation, and that money can be used to lock up Harris, Brick, and Mangold. I would not like for the above situation to happen, because Revis deserves to be paid. However, I think a number around $12 million a season is reasonable in this unique scenario.
