State of the Roster : The Fullbacks May 25th, 2010 - by Bassett Roster : Tony Richardson, John Conner Analysis : Even though a relative newcomer, it’s hard to undervalue the leadership that Tony Richardson has brought to the team. While issues of ‘chemistry’ rose around the NFL Draft, Richardson’s was one of the ones mentioned as someone who would provide stability. During the 2009 campaign, the Jets used Tony Richardson often, but maybe they used him too often as he had some bad moments, according to Pro Football Focus, which they explained in Bent’s interview with them a few months ago. The Jets needed to address Richardson’s slippage in play in 2009, and they’ve done so with the top rated FB in the 2009 Draft, John Conner. Roster Prognostication : This is where it gets tricky. The Jets have loaded up on talent at a number of positions, and most NFL rosters only have one fullback on a roster at a time, if even one at all . . . rest of article : > http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/05/25/state-of-the-roster-the-fullbacks/
As long as he mauls for the run game and doesn't slip in pass protect I'm down with Conner. We have rarely used our FB in the pass game in recent years. And Pluvrr, the article says RR praised Conner's pass-catching abilities after Rookie Camp. I agree that Richardson is good for the locker room, though, and worth keeping around. He plays surprisingly well for a (I think) 38 year old.
Conner is a special teams demon. So even if he rides the pine behind Richardson it really makes no difference. Conner by default is going to be counted on, at the very minimum, as a special teams ace.
t-rich did a great job last season, those stupid-ass profootballfocus articles are not to be taken too seriously, i'm pretty sure there was one saying that Lito Sheppard and Dwight Lowery were among the top 5 corners in football, and as we all know..that appeared to be very far from the truth, especially for Lito, he sucked.
Exactly. If he isn't on the field so much as a fullback and big part of the offense, he is still going to be a major player on special teams. He could just take the spot on the roster instead of an 8th or 9th linebacker. They'd be fulfilling the same role as a special teams player.
They were part of the best pass defense in football. The Jets were far and away the best. So their stats were going to be good no matter what metric they used. So it wasn't that obvious until....... The Jets ran into Peyton. It was as obvious as a sledgehammer to the head, that they were exposed in that game and simply not good enough. There weren't too many other games where they were exposed that badly, if at all, save for last minute drives. Their bad play wasn't pandemic by any stretch. In fact, there were many here that thought the Jets would more than capably handle Peyton in that second game. Well looking back that was completely wrong. The Jets know that the path to the Super Bowl runs through exceptional passing teams like the Colts. Hence the upgrades this offseason. But no, for long stretches last season Lowery, Lito and Strickland looked to be well north of adequate. So looking back and saying their stats in the #1 passing defense are wrong, is silly.
If the problem here is a roster spot I have no issue with dumping a jerkoff by the name of Kellen Clemens.
Yeah, I know Rex said that. I'm just saying I noticed Conner dropped some passes... he made some good catches too. I want a complete FB. A FB that can block, catch and run is awesome.
Rockefella, Any way you can dump your avatar? Seeing Fatcessa's face makes me wan't to vomit. Is he displaying his weener size in the picture?
Kelly PM'd me and told me to tell you this: Tak, Tommy. Jeg faktisk forstår dansk ganske godt, ud over at være en mand. Skål!
That's funny. My coworker who's Danish told me that kelly's response isn't natural-sounding Danish, and that kelly probably used an online translator. Hahahaha. Busted.
I always hear about Connor being a special teams demon, and being that I know nothing about this guy in college what role does he fill on ST ? I mean is he out there making tackles and in coverage on kickoffs , or are we talking about an excellent kickoff blocker or what ? Rarely do I hear about fullbacks being excellent on special teams so im trying to figure this one out.
