Right, but look at the rest of our O-line. I understand the concern, but a lot of the people here we complaining about Faneca last year, and we'll see some more complaints this year about LG, but it's a good move for the future.
I hope Slauson is ready for opening day. We've seen what a revolving door at LG does to our QBs (and no, I'm not referring to Faneca)
I get that and I am not comparing there skill level, Im comparing the fact that many were split on whether to start him or not even with Mawae gone. And if Ducasse is the better LG over Slauson, even slightly, start him I dont care if he's had one year on the offense already, if this kid can play hard especially between the best Center and a Top 3 LT the left side of the Oline will be untouchable and thats the kind of play youd want on a year like this. This is why Im saying to start Ducasse unless its "Extremely" apparent that he NEEDS time on the bench.
A lot of people complained about Thomas Jones too, but we ended up with the #1 running game in the league. Why? The o-line, FB, and TE's not named Keller mostly. I think I'm being misunderstood. I don't dislike the pick, I understand the business decision and I get the youth movement. The timing seemed odd to me.
Jesus E haha did ya even read my post? I agree with you on that point, its obvious to everyone. Its just that in my mind Ducasse is a must start, I know development is key but he's lining up with the best Oline in football and he'll become a real player immediately. I dont want to sit on this kid, I wanna give him a real shot and have him show us what he's got, experience never hurt anyone. And if we see a decline in play or obvious errors Slauson or Tuner slip in.
Yeah, but lack of experience can kill a drive, an offense, and a team. Once again, if he beats out Slauson, then he's clearly out best option at left guard and I'm not going to question that. ...and no, I didn't read your post - I never do. I just blindly reply to them.
Whoaa no need to get your panties in a bunch there E hahaa  But seriously this argument is lack luster, I think Im right but so do you, but training camp and his pre-season performance will only decide what we are predicting so time will only time what lays ahead for Ducasse.
I'm not predicting anything. I just think the best player will play. That's all I'm saying. At this point, Slauson is much further ahead of Ducasse in terms of knowing the system and knowing the speed of the game. We just have to see if Vlad the Impaler can catch up.
and the pure uncertainty of the replacements during what could be a super bowl run. That's the big one.
We'll hopefully then thats the case, IF he can, which i just dont think the coaches can pass up on starting him if that "IF" is seen as a bigger possibility then now.
My understanding is that he hated HC gig - and he felt much more comfortable and natural at OL-assistant coach gig.
That's exactly what he said. Plus, I don't think anyone will be giving him a shot after the Raiders and Nebraska situations.
I'm very glad we have Callahan, an amazing positional coach. If Vlad has the ability, Bill's the one who can unleash it.
If Vlad run blocks effectively, then he should start. I can't imagine him being any worse than Faneca was last year in pass protection, and at 6'5" 330lbs his size should help him against bigger interior lineman.
First I'll say this....I am very high on the Jets talent evaluation process. We have had tremendous draft picks (sans Gholston) in the past 4 years under Mike T, Bradway, and crew. They have built a very solid core of players through the draft. It was rumored that the Jets were targeting Ducasse with their 1st round pick. That changed when Kyle Wilson fell and he became the obvious choice. Then, as luck would have it our guy Ducasse falls to our 2nd round pick. Now that's some good luck, karma, or whatever, but we got our guy. I guess its also important to note that Faneca was not released until after Ducasse was drafted, which seems to indicate that Ducasse is the replacement. Otherwise they could have released him sooner if they Slauson was the guy. With that said, if our coaches and scouts were high enough on Ducasse to take him in the 1st round then I feel comfortable with his ability to step in right away for Faneca. If Slauson wins the LG spot this year it just means we have very good depth and can allow the rook to learn for a year and possibly take over for Woody next year to save more $$$$. Win win, baby! Let's have a little more faith in Mike T, Sexy Rexy, and Callahan. These guys know what they're doing and they've proved it, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt in this case.
How many times does he need to get Sanchez Killed before he reaches Faneca status, was it 7? How about Hurries??? Sheesh we didn't even pass much... I think he'll be fine. What Faneca was good at was pulling - I'd have to believe it wil take a while for the kid to be anywhere near what Faneca was able to do with that....
I read that article as suggesting Vlad will take time to be ready. Of course whether he starts or Slauson on opening day is as much about how NOT ready Slauson might be, I suppose. I didn't see anyone mention it here, so I hope i am not repeating this, but Slauson only got into 3 games last year. I don't recall him doing much, either, but at least he didn't get a holding penalty. Bottom line he looks pretty green himself. I dunno maybe the Jets would not surprise me by picking up a vet to start if Vlad, as I expect, is not fully ready by opening day.
