I voted Eric Smith because he's white and because I didn't know who Brodney Poole was. I don't believe we'll be seeing a jersey with Poole on it at all this season.
Barring injury, Brodney Pool(e) will most certainly get the majority of time on the field opposite Leonhard. I really like the depth we have out there though. Even though guys like Smith and Ihedigbo haven't really proven themselves, i think they can be useful role players. If Rex can successfully turn Warren into a useful safety, all the better.
My source knows the equipment manager for the Jets (said he looks like Lloyd Christmas) and he said that Rex has decided to have an extra E sewn onto Pool's jersey 5 minutes before each game. By the end of the season the numbers on his shoulders won't even be numbers - they will be E's.
Was wondering the same thing myself. Thought somebody knew something...well, about McGraw...that I didn't.
Whenever we'd see TC pictures of Leonard Peters, I would have fantasies that it said Polamalu under there. And that it was baby oil instead of sweat.
The bolded bit is why I voted for Smith over Pooleee. The league is getting tougher this year about concussions. He gets one, he's out for weeks--like 4-6 of them. And the way this guy hits, he's gonna get one. I see Safety by committee this year unless Warren comes out of nowhere and nails it down (a possibility). I think the Mad Scientist Rex makes everyone a role player to get the big stops when needed and keep Offensive Coordinators guessing all week long where the overload is coming from.
To use a baseball term, I see a Pool/Smith platoon until one of those guys gets hurt or Warren takes over.
