Because police are called when people are being perfectly exemplary passengers all the time. There shouldliterally be no story here, yet we have police and reports and bullshitting on the Internets (granted that last one is about as inevitable as the tides, but still). When you couple this with his past indiscretions it's tough to feel positive about him going forward. I'll say again (because some posters seem to not like reading this as it SHOULD prevent them from shooting off at the mouth, er, keyboard) that this incident isn't something that should be punished nor is it something that shows anything more than (at worst) somewhat questionable intelligence/discretion on his part. But when you view this in light of all his other events, it doesn't portend well for him. Methinks that Braylon will be the WR the Jets invest in long term (though it also wouldn't shock me if they let both of them walk after this season and stuck with Cotchery, I think he fits the mentality of the team better).
Nice, that happened to me when I went to Europe in october, I was told to turn of my iPod and I did but I didn't take off my headphones and the stewardess came and gave me such an attitude, but whatever, I can see how this was what really happened. :breakdance:
Could you make smaller posts? My poop-head doesn't want to read through all those words and sentences.
It's very good of you to point this out to us. In the same vein, I presume you are aware that domestic abuse is an habitual behaviour that once manifested has a very high chance of recurrence?
In the end the facts are that Santonio Holmes and the police had a conversation at the airport. It may well have been overblown and things may not necessarily be dire for him, but for a guy who is in trouble already to get himself into trouble (of any sort) that involves the police just sends up all sorts of red flags about his wisdom and by extension about his ability to avoid real trouble moving forward. Santonio Holmes - a very good WR - smoked a little pot, for which the Steelers sent him packing. Ben Roethlisberger likely sexually assaulted two different women in the last year and the Steelers chose to keep him around anyway. The fact that the Steelers traded Holmes tells me that they had a significant doubt about his ability to stay out of trouble moving forward. A doubt that is now looking a little bit clearer after the police were called to talk to Holmes. The last thing the Steelers should have done if they were planning to keep Roethlisberger was to trade his top receiver. The fact that they moved Holmes out tells me what I need to know about his chances. I hope he's not a total idiot and that he plays for the Jets for years. I won't be surprised however if that's way too optimistic.
Because it's entirely impossible to think that officials on the flight might have overreacted? He's asked to turn his iPod off and he turned his iPod off. He left his ear buds in and the flight attendant over reacted. He was asked to wait while the police comes, he waits without incident, they ask him questions and he answers, they decide that NOTHING HAPPENED. Anyone trying to take anything away from this story as an example of Holmes' attitude is gunning for him. I have absolutely no problems feeling positive about Holmes going forward.
That call to the police is going to generate an internal review at Continental in which the employees behavior and judgment are both going to be evaluated, because no airline can afford to have it's staff out of control at this point. While it's possible to think the Continental employees over-reacted it's much more reasonable to expect that they were just doing their job. That job is always on the line after all and it certainly will be when the incident is evaluated by the airline.
I'm seeing too possibilities where calling the cops in this situation would be part of the SOP: 1. They are trained to report anyone whom they feel is not complying with the electronics policy and restrictions 2. Report any disturbance as a possible legal problem. The only other possibility is giving the flight attendants a discretionary call here to report anyone they think could be a problem.
My best guess is that the employees are actually trained to defuse situations and handle whatever they can without calling the police. That would be pretty standard for most businesses that occasionally deal with disruptions based on interpersonal conflicts. If every flight attendant called the police every time they thought somebody was a bit off or slow to comply there would probably be a policeman waiting at the gate half the time when the plane got to it. I've flown on 50+ flights in my life and I've seen passengers half in the bag, too loud, arguing with each other over the flight attendants objections, walking in the aisles when the fasten seat belts sign was lit over the flight attendants objections (I guess when you gotta go you gotta go.) I've never seen the police waiting at the gate to talk to a passenger after the fact. If the situation got to that state then Holmes did something very wrong during the process of getting there. It's possible that the employees did also, but the employees aren't under a 4 game suspension and vulnerable to further league action as a result. Just saying, apologizing for Holmes in this situation is nuts. The guy should be apologizing to everybody else for the misunderstanding.
I've been tied up, but here to officially eat crow for my overreaction and knee-jerk reaction to media sensationalism. I am an ass!
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...-30_distruptive_holmes_booted_off_flight.html From todays Daily News: Holmes refused to turn off his IPod and requested that the police talk to him about it. Which they did. If that's not stupid self-centered behavior from a player who is a risk to himself and the team I don't know what is. It's the fourth documented occasion since 2006 in which Holmes has talked to the police over an incident. 2006 was disorderly conduct and domestic violence. 2008 was marijuana possession. 2009 was the club incident where he supposedly threw a glass at a woman. And now this. You think he's got strike 5 in him? What kind of idiot needs to be told by the police that he should obey the requests of a flight attendant on a plane in the air?
I understand that he was asked to turn off his ipod, which he did but did not take his headphones off, the plane broad came back to yell, he said he turned it off, put his earpods in the random woman sitting next to him who confirmed it was off, and the plane chick had the cops waiting for him at the airport. Doesn't sound like anything close to weed possession or throwing a drink on a chick.
You're wasting your time. No one wants to think Holmes could have possibly been out of line here. Now, if they had heard an anonymous whiney quote from Cimini that was linked to Holmes they'd throw him under the bus immediately.
From Yahoo: The only logical conclusion: Flight attendant: Turn off your iPod Holmes: K /falls asleep Flight attendant: I told you to turn off your iPod Holems: I did, I just left my headphones in Lady next to Holmes: It's off Holmes: Call the police if you think it's necessary(kinder words than he said, I'm sure) Flight attendant: K There is literally nothing here. He got a couple of drunk and disorderly charges as a rookie - recidivist likes to drink Domestic abuse - deserved to be punshied, was, good. Weed - Shaun Ellis is a monster! More weed - Ricky Williams is a monster! Glass throwing incident - needs to hang out with women who have a longer fuse iPod problem: Ain't shit but hype You are right. Abyzmal and most of the other posters would be throwing Rich Cimini under the bus for using another whiney, anonymous quote for his story.
From the Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704608104575218510718426020.html Since when do security guards care whether or not people are listening to music in the boarding area?
And what does Coles have to do with this? Why can't I say bomb on an airplane? Bomb! Bomb bomb bomb! Bomb-bada-bomb bomb bomb!
