Hopefully Rex has more influence on Adalius than Mike Nolan. I'd like us to sign Adalius Thomas if it's cheap.
Why is everyone all up on Thomas' jock strap? Why the hell do we want to bring him in? Yeah three and four years ago, Rex made him a stud. 3 years later, he is older broken slow and injury prone. He also plays OLB at a position which is covered for us. Taylor is the pass rusher, he had more sacks last season than thomas in the last 2 combined and Miami failed to use him properly. Bryan Thomas is ten times more adequate as a run stopper than Adalius. He is also never missing time due to injury, unlike thomas who has missed almost a quarter of games the last two seasons. he would not play on this defense unless one of the aformentioned goes down injured. and he would want to much money for us to watch him sit the pine all year. If you want a vet bring in John Henderson, he would be worth 100 times what AT would bring to this defense... Adalius is done. Henderson has some game left AND would be an upgrade over what we have AND he would be asked to do one thing, not get blown off the ball. and a mammoth 335 pound man who is still as strong as he is will be able to do that pretty damn easily.
You know what? With BT and JT I don't really care if we get AT or not... and if we get him I hope we don't cut BT...
Didn't Thomas once sack Pennington and Leon at the same time once? That was a pretty impressive play.
Both the Jets and Dolphins are interested, so it'll come down to which team wants him more. Personally I think the Dolphins will make a bigger play than the Jets. Thomas does want a ring, but he also wants playing time. Should be interesting.
If I had to guess, I'd say that AT would be taking BT's snaps if he's brought on board. Pace is a 3-down linebacker while Taylor is only going to be used on passing downs.
Last season when Bart Scott was injured in the final playoff game, we didn't have the depth at LB and in turn, James Ihedigbho was running some plays there. Adding AT for depth at OLB and if needed, to play some ILB would make lots of sense. Keep rotating fresh legs out there. We wore down in the heat vs Miami last year and it's a long season.
Could we keep BT and still get AT? Depth is always a question since VG is at DE that leaves OLB position open and we could pick up JH and have him start at DE and have VG back him up and then split plays with BT and AT at OLB?
Depth. Veteran depth. He can play OLB, ILB, and even DE and DT in some formations. He would be a nice piece to add.
We don't need Thomas, so no point bringing him in. Instead we should be bringing in Henderson to play DE for us, would actually improve our starting team rather than just making an expensive depth signing.
NOTHING would make me happier than if the Jets signed Thomas and then cut Jason Taylor. How EPIC would that be? Haha. I don't know if thats possible, but it would be awesome.
oh, and what makes anyone think he would be better depth than a guy like Westerman? Thomas has done everything to prove he is on the outs, he has lost more than one step, he has become very injury prone, he is a liability in coverage now that he can't keep up with TE's he doesnt have the pass rushing ability Taylor has anymore, so yeah I suppose he would be good depth, but then again why the hell would we want to pay him 3-4 million to ride the pine? isnt that the reason we just cut faneca? he would be too expensive to let sit the bench?
Because Westerman was bypassed last season for James Ihedigbo when Scott was hurt in the playoffs last year. I like Westerman's athletic ability but he is still learning. His sacks seemed to come in the same formation, same play.
Because 2 old pass rushers are better then just 1 old pass rusher. PLUS WE CAN'T sack a QB for our fucking lives with the front 4.
