Me likes. Good post. The "experts" will tell you we have character problems, but it's really the opposite in lots of ways. We are creating a perfect environment (at least it seems that way); fun, but serious. And of course BE, Holmes, and Cro are all on 1-year deals, so if they have poor attitudes, we just let them go without suffering any consequences too adverse (especially with KWilson in the wings now).
my thoughts exactly. he didnt watch any USC football this year. im sure they used 6 diff. backs this year, so to gain 1000 yds is very good IMO

LOL. Yes, he did take some direct snaps. He also fumbled one against OSU that has haunted Trojan fans ever since. I prefer to think he learned from that experience :up:. Either way, I think Brad Smith's role is safe, but flexibility is good.
I have a feeling that the Seahawsk didn't want to trade for Leon until after we drafted McKnight. It makes sense with Pete Carroll as the HC over there. Hopefully McKnight can become half the player Leon was for us.
I'm a huge Kyle Wilson fan, but McKnight may be the best draft pick (2010) for the Jets. If McKnight stays healthy.....look out.
I agree. He was maligned largely due to a crowded backfield and misplaced expectations. He's a phenomenal prospect for us. It's rather impressive when you can see EVERY draft pick becoming a force at his position.
Yep, thats exactly it. Our depth at what the staff feels are key areas is a double bonus. We can place a ton of talent on the feild at one time, and if guys don't proform up to expectations, or screw up outside of football, there is no long term damage. We are built to win now, and supplied to win in the long term. I love waht the FO has done.
This. I've seen a few people write that the Jets are going all in just for this year, but I really don't see it that way. The 4 best players on our team (Revis, Mangold, Harris, D'Brick) are all very young and will undoubtedly be signed long term. At QB, we obviously have Sanchez who is signed long term. At RB we have Greene and McKnight long term who are both under 25. At TE, we have Keller who is also young. On defense, we have Scott and Pace who are both signed long term and under 30. Then look at guys like Leohnard, Wilson, and DeVito who are young and signed long term. The age on this team is at #2 RB, RT (with a clear heir on this team), and DL. None of these players are in our core and can be replaced fairly easily.
In an interview on 1050 ESPN Radio before the draft, Tanny was asked about his aggressive approach to the draft. He came out & said that based on their experience & beliefs, you can get just as talented a player as an undrafted free agent as you would in rounds 5-7. What he's basically saying is that at that point in the draft, it's a complete crap shoot. He'll go up & get guys that he feels can't miss, and then wait & sign from the leftover pool.
With the numbers out there on these types of picks I tend to agree. We got a very good couple of late round guys in McKnight and Conner who fill roles on our team now and bigger ones in the future. We are probly goign to have a former UDFA starting at right end in Devito this year and added more DL depth through UDFA after the draft. His approach seems to be working. We have a few cagy old vets who can still contribute but are not a salary burden. We have a very talented young vet core on both sides of the ball. We also are starting to add talented young depth to replace the older players as they need to move on. We need help in the OLB area long term, but most other positions are not looking too bad if any of the UFDA's work out. Things could be a lot worse in Jets Nation.
Although, McKnight was not the Reggie Bush-esque homerun threat many thought he would be going out of highschool, I believe he developed into a better inside runner than Bush, especially this year. That said he is still very elusive guy in the open field and a problem for defenders in space. If he continues to develop as an inside runner and puts on some extra weight, I think he has a shot at becoming an every down back at some point. For now he is more than serviceable as our 3rd down/change of pace guy or possibly more if LT turns out to be a dud. They should rename the 4th round the "Jets round" cause we've been making a killing the past few years in the 4th round.
Really? and how good is USC They are stacked at every position. I've warmed up to this pick after I've thought about it more. But still am I wrong any back should be able to get a thousand yards on their roster. Its not like it was last year with Shonn Green who played with much less talent on Iowa and still had over 1800 yards.
Actually, under Pete Carroll the past few years, it was even harder to get 1000 yards at USC. They brought in the best stable of HB recruits ever, and Pete NEVER committed to a single one. His use of them varies from game to game, and none of them knew how many touches they'd get heading into the game. McKnight was the best of the bunch, but he didn't get consistent carries.
This. Carroll shied away from having a legit starter and instead used his stable situationally. I wouldn't too surprised of the depth chart in Seattle means absolutely nothing with regards to the HBs.
