I'm sure people will dislike it since it's not a flashy player that will help from day one. I personally think that if the Jets are going to stay good that keeping the offensive line restocked is as important as anything else. Vlad will be playing someone on the line in 2011.
I'm slowly starting to. Why? His Senior Bowl highlights. That, and considering who was still on the board. Not set on that opinion yet, though.
I'm sure they expect to pick up some cast-offs from other teams to sure up the DL. Thought we would pick up Faneca's replacement with this pick. Hope he's a good one?

Ducasse, a mauling run blocker with underrated athleticism at 6-foot-5, 330, projects ideally into New York's power-based scheme as a Jeff Otah-like mauler. As a rookie, he'll be a candidate to replace Alan Faneca, who's likely to be released. Faneca isnt even worth a 5th rounder to some teams? Why does it feel like the Jets never get picks for unwanted players.
Certainly don't hate the pick, and think OL and DL are far and away the most important places to seed with the draft, but you have to question the competition he's faced. Maine? New Hampshire? URI? George Mason? Doesn't exactly flatten you, you know?

The Jets love to run the ball, and Scouts Inc. rated Ducasse the third-best run blocker among all guards in the draft. Where he fits: The Jets reportedly have been shopping perennial Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca and will need to replace right tackle Damien Woody within a couple of years. If the Jets don't trade or cut Faneca, Ducasse can ease into the role, but there's a good chance he could start on opening night. He's 6-foot-5 and 332 pounds. Scouts Inc. says: As a run blocker, displays a quick first step and takes strong angles to the point. Plays with balance and leverage and is able to engulf defenders with massive frame and strength. He's definitely a guy who Callahan pulled for - all the physical tools are there, he just needs a bit of coaching to unlock his full potential.
Hows this for a compromise: get him in here, put him through all the camps, preseason; and if he takes the job, then move Faneca out the door. That makes sense to me (Or hell, he could take Woody's job too, for that matter)
Because I was trying to compromise :lol: Since half of you want Faneca gone, like, yesterday and the other half want him to stay another year.
We aren't going to pay Faneca 9 million a year to sub in and out.....and continuity and chemistry is too important on the line for that.
