I don't like the thought of him getting traded or cut but if it improves the team we'll have to deal with it. He's an FA at the end of the season so Tannenbaum and Rex could want something for him now. Hopefully, Jenkins and Pouha can provide the Vet leadership for the DLine unit. Thanks, Shaun. You will/would be missed.
+2. I really don't think we'll trade him. His experience and attitude is something we need on this team. He's one of those players who just never gives up, and if he isn't on the team when we win a superbowl, it's massively fucked up. I believe he's the longest tendered Jet by far on the roster right now too.
Me too! I dont see Ellis going anywhere at all. And if by chance he does, then I will be pissed off as Ellis does deserve to retire as a Jet. I love the big man, and he has gone thru a crapload of coaching changes, D-cordinators, and loads of other junk.
I will be dumbfounded if they actually let him go, easily our best lineman and one of the Best the Jets have ever had!
Concur Ellis is a great Jet and certainly has been a good soldier, outside of the pot thing late in 08, he has been stellar and out of trouble his whole career.
It could slightly by affecting who we draft. Now that we have a pass rushing OLB, we could go after DL early and worry about OLB later.
It's amazing how agile Shaun Ellis is for a guy his size. Bart Scott described it best last year when he said ellis plays like he has "his hair on fire." I think ppl are giving that rumor way too much credibility. Like moose said, the only effect of signing JT, if any at all, has to do with the status of The Cactus on the team. We need more DL depth even with Ellis on the team. Why would we cut him? In order for that to be any beneficial to us at all, we'd hafta find 2 starting calibur 34 ends in this draft. The rumor is bogus.
Yea cutting Shaun doesn't make any sense at all. Even if we got a 2nd rd pick for him, which we won't, whoever we get is not going to help us much this year.At the same time it would create a huge hole on the dline and turn it into a weak unit. Ellis has been one of the best and most underrated left ends in football for a long time. I'll just wipe my ass with this fairy tale.
He's a 33 year old defensive end who is nearing the end of his career. He doesn't have much trade value, so I can't see why they'd look to trade him. He's more valuable to us than to anyone else. He's only valuable to a win-now 3-4 style team, that's us! He's our best DE, a leader on the team. It's not like we have a young stud ready to take over for him.. if we draft a guy he will play on the other side where we have a hole. Getting rid of Shaun Ellis makes less than zero sense.
