I hate to bust everyone's bubble, but I've been this excited many many times before. Let's see, there was 1970, 1972, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1999, 2003, 2005...........
i can only speak for the last 3 but i have never seen this much young talent on a jets team. my excitement is through the roof because this should be the year the jets establish themselves as perennial contender. i must add that i have never seen a coach who seems so to be perfect for the team as rex is. all the guys in that locker room would lay down in traffic if he asked them to.
I hear ya, man. I've been saying the same thing. Unfortunately, CatoTheSodamizer (or whatever he calls himself) doesn't want to hear the TRUTH.
Yup' Yup" But I also think that we are headed in the right direction, and with a decent draft, this might be our year. Hell...... who else is this good on paper right now? 40 plus years of watching/buying/rooting/crying......... its been a long time, but I think Tanny and Rex have the ship steering to the promised land, and its a Green and White Island with a SB Flag flying on top!
Clever. Can I try? Al Sodamizer. Wow, that was easy. Do you really have fun wallowing in self fan pity? Why even bother watching the team? Oh wait, you're a troll.
Rex squashed the 'same ol jets' bullshit first day he became HC. "Same ol' Jets? Seems fine with me. When my father was apart of them they were WINNING" I was sold day 1.
I haven't been watching the Jets for as long as a lot of you have, but if these were the "same 'ol Jets" would they have (by some miracle) have made the playoffs last season after losing to the Falcons in pathetic fashion?
1999 was the most excited i have been -- 98 was such a dynamic season and we were bringing everyone back. Our playoff runs this decade have been ugly, our D has been iffy at times, and you always knew the Patriots were there. This year I am almost as psyched as I was in 99 -- we had Vinnie and Curtis === no Sanchez and Greenne
Oh, and your incessant whining came off as completely mature and not mindless babble? Obviously there is the one big goal of getting to the super bowl, but guess how many teams get to do that each year? 2 Guess how many win? 1 "Most jet fans feel the same but don't have the guts to put themselves out there." And just because we're optimistic, we're some angry kiddy party? Come on. There are tons of jets fans who are USUALLY pessimists who are excited about this year because of what was accomplished last year. The team got off to a great start, then had a horrible stretch of games, and came back from under .500 to make the playoffs. Teams RARELY if ever do that. You should be proud that instead of rolling over and dieing when it looked like they were out of it, they came back to life and fought their way into a playoff matchup, then played 3 great games of football in the playoffs. Then they go ahead and improve the team during the offseason, and you're telling me I should TEMPER my expectations because it's the Jets? As Chad Johnson would say - "Child Please"
SOJ stuff aside, the latest administration under Woody Johnson is a hype machine. There has been a lot of press thrown the Jets' way starting with the Favre trade. We got results from Parcells in 1998, and I was pumped as I could be leading up to 1999, even though I had to watch the games at 3 in the morning because I was stationed in Korea. Now, on the offensive side of the ball, we have a burgeoning rookie QB, a strong philosophy for the running game, an offensive line that may be as good as 1998, a receiving corps that can actually be mentioned in the same sentence as 1998 Keyshawn and Chrebet for once in the past decade, a solid receiving TE in Keller and a solid blocking TE in Hartsock... On the defensive side of the ball, we have a veteran core on the DL with Ellis and Jenkins, a solid rotation of players and the ability in the draft to upgrade those positions, we have a solid LB corps which is possibly a pure pass rusher away from becoming elite, and our secondary seems like it is a ballhawking FS away from total dominance. You add one true starter to each of those units and people will be talking about the Jets defense as being among the greatest of all time. Our coaching staff, while not as experienced, is very aggressive and fearless. That can be a blessing and a curse, but it's exciting, you can't take that away. We have some of the best defensive coaching in the league, possibly the best ST coach, on offense Callahan has built the O-line into a juggernaut, and then there's Schotty. Schotty could have a true coming-out party with the number of weapons we now have on offense - or he could be the coaching weakness that hurts us the most in 2010. Soooo... being a hungry Jets fan in the information age, with all of the hype that I can't totally avoid or ignore, this is possibly the most excited I have ever been in my entire life. But it's not without caution, because I've been very excited before and had it blow up in my face.
No love for 1995? Onset of the Kotite era? Boomer's last stand? The Dexter Carter aquisition? Wayne Chrebet making the team?
I could disprove this by doing a search for your posts for the past year. All you really ever do anymore is try to burst bubbles. You're a bubble-bursting MASHEEEN.
Excited, Yes......but I have never been this confident going into a season before. I know the signs, and something special is going on here.......and that is coming out of the mouth of a LONG time Jets fan.
