VS. Game 1: Friday @ 8:15PM Oliver Perez, LHP (0-1, 6.35) v. Chris Carpenter, RHP (1-0, 5.73) Game 2: Saturday @ 4:10PM Johan Santana, LHP (1-1, 4.91) v. Jaime Garcia, LHP (1-0, 1.50) Game 3: Sunday @ 8:05PM on ESPN John Maine, RHP (0-1, 13.50) v. Adam Wainwright, RHP (2-0, 1.20) I hate to sound like a pessimist, but I really don't see the Mets winning more than one game this series. This last matchup between Maine and Wainwright looks like a game that might be tough to watch for Mets fans..
I will be doing backflips if he manages to go at least 5+ innings and only give up like...3 or 4 runs.
Mets get swept, Pujols goes 8-11 with 4 HR's, 3 2B's, 11 RBI's and a couple walks. Oh and Jamie Garcia (whoever that is) throws a perfect game on Saturday.
On a side note, what a great game from Pelf today. He's finally added more pitches to his arsenal on top of his fastball/sinker. Even if we had a mediocre year this year but if Pelf develops into a true #2 Brandon Webb-type pitcher for us i'd be doing backflips. With Johan being Johan, Pelf giving us solid #2 starts, and hopefully if Maine reverts back to his 07 form now that he's going back to his old mechanics, there may be hope for this season yet. This all hinges on how Maine bounces back though.....FTR, i love niese's stuff. think he'll develop into a solid #3 for us by the time the year is over.
Carpenter v Perez might be worse. All three pitching matchups in this series seem pretty lopsided, game 2 towards the Mets (then again, a week ago I woud've said Santana v Livan Hernandez was lopsided in the Mets favor too).
Well Oli already had his really bad start, so I'm expecting a good game out of him, then next time he pitches he will be complete trash again. Isn't that how it works?
you realize Carpenter's ERA vs the mets is like 6 or 7? It's very possible the Mets can win this series.
Carpenter and Oli both get out of first inning jams. Oli lets the first two men on base, then gets Pujols to hit into a double play, then makes Ryan Ludwick look like a fool with a nasty slider and a fastball.
Then Olli lays down a perfect sac bunt, where Francoeur scores from 2nd as Pujols botches the throw home.
Francoeur takes a bad turn, but Pujols messes up and the Mets score 1-0! I'm gonna miss the rest of this game which actually makes me mad, it seems like its gonna be a good one so far.
Make that 1 earned run. Poor Ollie - he finally pitches well, and his bullpen completely sabotages him.
