At work today as I was day dreaming about football, I thought of something not involving us but something interesting. I know it won't ever happen but what if a trade like this happened?:

Raiders get- Roethlisberger, 3rd round pick
Steelers get- Nnamdi, 1st round pick, Michael Bush

The Raiders don't really care about what type of players they have and there has been word of Nnamdi being traded in the past. Both teams would benefit and it sounds reasonable.

I hope it doesn't happen because I despise both teams and think it would improve both of them but do you guys think something along these lines could happen possibly?

How would getting rid of your franchise QB that has 2 rings improve the Steelers?

It improves their defense a shit-load since they have absolutely no talent at CB. Aside from that, it's either a wash or a detriment.

The Bush addition doesn't make sense for the Steelers. Bush is a starter on most teams in the NFL and Coach Sunglasses likes to run a feature-back system rather than a rotation so there isn't too much value there.

The draft pick puts the Steelers at #8 which gives them a decent shot at Claussen but I really don't see him falling past the Seahawks and the Browns. If anything, having the Steelers pick right after the Cleveland might convince Holmgren to take Claussen just to keep the edge on Pittsburgh.

Of course, this is a moot point if you think that Dennis Dixon can be a franchise QB but it wouldn't be the brightest idea to put that much trust in a 5th round QB becoming a franchise QB.

Well Mendenhall is the only good back the Steelers have. Moore is decent but Bush could be a great right hand man. The Steelers also really like Dixon. I don't mean to say that the Steelers would be better exactly, just that Ben being out of Pits seems likely and if it's going to happen that this trade would be a good way to get it done. They would likely still be a top team in the AFC.

As far as their running game goes, Mendenhall and Moore are all that Tomlin need on his team. He prefers the old feature-back makeup and they're shifting to a pass-heavy system with Bruce Arians still in control as OC. Bush isn't the passing option that Moore is.

It's not about improving the team it's about improving the team's image. If they can get anything worthwhile he will be gone in a blink. They are all but saying that.

I actually have to agree with this. The problem is that equal value is basically a kings ransom.

Basically, yea. You don't get rid of a 2X Super Bowl winning QB unless he's hurting your team. Ben is really hurting the Steelers' image.

I'm thinking Ben has a 50/50 chance of getting traded. I can see this trade being pretty fair to both sides. Oakland gets the franchise QB they really need, Steelers get a great CB and a 1st round pick, which they could get Clausen.

Bush is just the odd man out tho.

well if the Steel curtain really thinks one of Clausen/Bradford can make it work, I would try to swing the trade. Then I would get on the horn with KC at 5 and set up a swap when they are on the clock and grab Clausen at #5 without needing to give up 18...

This is really surprising - a hypothetical trade thread that doesn't totally suck.
