Ok, as many of you probably know, MMA training has become a big thing with a bunch of NFL players in the offseason. Jay Glazer personally works out with and trains many of them.. including guys like Brian Cushing, Patrick Willis, Ryan Grant. Now, the guys who do this swear by it and say it helps in so many ways.. with flexibility, hip swivel, endurance, etc. Back when Rex was at that MMA fight in Miami, there were stories about how Rex wanted to send a bunch of Jets to work out with him and undergo this training. One of the main players being mentioned was Gholston. Well apparently he never went through with it because Jay Glazer tweeted about it, and how he wishes Gholston would would work out with him because it would help him big time. What is with this guy.. that sure doesn't help the perception that he doesn't seem to have any interest in getting better. You would think that he would be willing to do whatever it took to try and become a decent player, but I guess not. Unfortunately it is looking more and more like this guy is never going to contribute at all.
Gholston was smart enough to get paid, and knows he can retire off this contract. He probably just doesn't like football.
Damn. I remember Calvin Pace did this when he was suspended. Fuck Gholston people are reaching out to fucking help him, and he is refusing to do anything. Cut this guy for cap space in 2011.
I don't see this on jay glazer's twitter account, did u actually see this or hear it from another site. If this is true, this is dissapointing to say the least.
Gholston gamed the system...period. He does not like football. He's wealthy beyond most dreams of avarice.
Gholston should be doing everything humanly possible to get better and improve. I do think Rex and Co. would have cut him if he was an absolute slacker this past season - so I do think there's still hope. We'll find out for sure with one more season under Rex.
I am as disappointed as everyone else with his lack of production but you can't say that not doing MMA training means he's not working hard. Maybe he spoke to a football player who tried it and preferred more traditional football training. Maybe Vernon feels he needs to dedicate his time to more football-specific techniques. Whatever the case, the absence of MMA training does not disqualify the possibility that he could be doing everything he can to get better.
i dont think tanny wants to cut him, and admit he is a bust. especially when he has a talent of rex ryan on the staff to build him, but if he is refusing to help himself he should go fuck himself.
Gladys is such a worthless POS. I cannot believe the nerve of this retard. How can he just sit there and not contribute over and over again? He'll probably get a ring with this team and his career sack total will still be 0.
I agree, MMA training in general wouldn't be that useful anyway. It is the underlying martial arts training that would be beneficial like Aikido or ju-jitsu that would really help Gholston. And honestly that would take years.
If the NFL ever makes a rule that allows one player from the sideline to give chase to an opposing player who has broken through the the second level of the defence, Gholston might actually be the best in the league at it. It would be like a DH in baseball. He'd be the DC, designated chaser.
They could get Bruce Lee, Vince Lombardi, and Reggie White together as a super coaching squad and they still wouldn't be able to turn Gholston into anything other than a scamming pussy that doesn't care about football.
