This is why I chose Thomas as well. This is true. The point was to forget about thinking like a GM for the moment, and simply consider who you feel is the BPA of the group (but still considering who exists on our roster) and/or who you simply think adds the most to our team. I'm sure I went about it wrong, but that was the aim.
I'm not against trading up at all (or staying put...or trading down). Tanny has earned the benefit of the doubt in my book. If there's a player he absolutely must have, he's proven that he has no problem going up and getting him, and for the most part his drafting has been very good. If Rex is in love with Thomas and thinks he could be the Ed Reed of this D, Tanny will get him, within reason of course.
I totally agree I think a CB or S is needed. There seems to be good depth in positions of want/need this year for us I like this a lot. (DL, CB, S, OLB) I wouldn't mind seeing Lowery being worked into packages as a FS in camp and preseason if we did draft a CB like Devin McCourty or Kyle Wilson. FS these days seem to be glorified CB anyway.
I know, they're ridiculous in every way. That's why I tried to add on that bit of what we'd probably have to deal. And for the record if the Jets were sitting at #17 or so and Thomas was there I'd be OK with taking him, but the idea of saying that a safety was worth two of our top picks is what makes me uneasy.
got my fingers crossed for an Eric Berry slide on Draft day but I don't think this is going to happen.
who knows. Browns might trade up for Bradford and and Berry falls to the teens and Tanny pulls the trigger.
Odrick Bryan Thomas/A. Thomas/Jason Taylor/The Ghost can suffice at OLB Douglas/DeVito/Pititiou I think is a weaker position)
Dan Williams, AKA the best NT in the draft, provides wayyy too much value to not pick him if he's available. He would probably step in right away as an end, too.
I had a dream that we traded up to #9 and grab a safety. Now that being said I woke up and saw that Buffalo owns the 9 spot. SO take my DREAM with a grain of salt. And if it comes true
i think we can get a pass rusher in the later rounds, but earl thomas's talent is just craz. he would fit perfectly in our defense
That's a good idea for them, need to get a 2nd rounder back. Going to be a good spot for someone to deal up for a guy like Haden or Morgan.
Brandon Graham. Just to humiliate Gholston even more with the Jets finally getting the pass rusher they[Mangini] thought they[he] was getting in Gholston from Michigan.
Exactly. We'd be killing two stones with one bird, which is a very hard task to accomplish. Future NT + temporary DE would be a great grab. The Jets could pick another DE in next year's draft (which is supposed to be 3-4DE heavy), as well, which would solidify this pick. Why would the Jets trade up to the mid teens for Brandon Graham? I love him as a prospect but that would be paying too much for him.
Does it not scare people the thought of trading up to take a safety, I mean it would cost us a hell of a lot to move up in the 1st place and leaves us still unable to get to the QB therefore it doesnt really matter how good your secondary is, it's going to get stretched. The only person I think we should trade up for is Graham, the dude is an animal.
