99.9% of the time yes, that is true.

Mangold is a better talent and it has happened, with Kevin Mawae.
Guys can be groomed to be on the Oline, except for elite Centers.

In the end it doesn't matter, we are keeping both.

In the offense we run Mangold has to start every play with a flawlessly executed snap, he is typically the key man in making line calls. These calls are vital, especially with all the motioning being called.

For example, with the constant defensive changes that occur during a game, the offensive line must react to those changes if an adjustment in the blocking scheme is required. Mangold is literally at the center of the action (right in the middle), the center is the obvious member of the offensive line to identify and communicate to the other offensive linemen what blocking adjustment must be made.

Because of this Mangold must have a meticulous command of the offensive line blocking system, the game plan, and individual defensive players his team is facing.

On top of all that the Center might not be counted on as being a great blocker, luckily Mangold is top notch at that too. Most other teams would have to slide a guard over, in most cases Mangold is good all on his own.

I realize Brick is key as well but he ain't called the Center for nuttin-

Anybody who thinks we should get rid of Mangold(to free up $) are mentally insane.

Yes, but if there was some situation where only one could be kept, the LT is the 2nd most important position on the offense, right after the QB.

I would actually franchise Mangold and resign Brick, free up space and then resign Mangold the next year.

Sign All but the two receivers then let them battle it out in the season for who will be the most valuable to pick up and then trade or realease the other. Then with the large amount of talented WR's coming out of the draft, select one and put them in the slot or wherever they fit best.

if we cut the ghost, faneca, and thomas we should have enough room to bring back both WRs. Plus Holmes value has had to of droped $ wise.(since if he fucks up one more time he will have a 1year suspension)

You're definitely right about this being an unusual situation with Mangold as the better player, and I agree that we'll have to find a way to keep both of them.

The nice part is, we have a means of keeping Revis through 2012 without having to touch the franchise tag. Obviously, it would be ideal to extend him in a way that bridges the gap between his 2011 and 2012 buy-backs, but if we have to, his 2011 buy-back only costs $5 million and we COULD buy 2012 for an amount close to the franchise tag. I don't know what the points system breakdown is, but it's likely to cost $11 to $13 million to buy his 2012 contract. I'd guess the Jets do something next offseason to give him more money in 2011, bring down 2012, and extend him for an additional 3 years on top of that.

Either way, you have a tag for one of the two linemen and then only have one guy necessary to re-sign. I don't think Edwards and Holmes do enough in this one season on a run-first team to be unsignable, meaning we should be able to get at least one of them under contract. I think we'll be fine.

Why would we bring back Edwards and Holmes? Holmes might be willing to take a demotion now but he is going to want a starting job back and he damn sure is going to want to be payed like a starter.

At least we know he's going to have to earn that contract. There's no way a team takes a chance on him with top starter money unless he stays out of trouble all season AND continues to produce on the field. There's certainly going to be a limit to the passing game this season, even if it improves greatly over last year. I might even let the one who produces more be the one who walks after this season if we're going to continue to ground and pound.

Have you completely forgotten how this league works? If he produces then he will get payed, even if he has to go to Oakland to do it.
I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think we gave Sanchez the richest rookie contract in team history to sit behind an unbalanced offense his entire career. It's much more likely that the Jets are going to let the scales tip more toward the passing game as Sanchez progresses, especially if Schottenheimer continues to stay on as the OC.

I'm saying IF he proves himself, and if we are lucky enough to get Edwards to prove himself also. Do you think he(Holmes) deserves to get a bit lesser then a number 1 WR salary due to his foolish behavior?

I'd just like to keep these two guys, and J-Co. We are going to need to put up 3 TD's by air in playoff games to reach the promise land. Unless of course we become the 2000 Ravens.

Fair enough. Then sign the MORE productive of the two and draft a slot receiver anyway

geeze as a Jets fan I've been so patient the past few years, but this offseason is driving me insane.

Honestly, that is going to be one hell of a decision, Holmes or Braylon ... I personally think Holmes is an amazing talent and one hell of a player, he would compliment Cotch just as much, but you got to wonder what he's thinking with all this going on ... fuck at the end of the day him going to the slot could mean a career year for him, 1 on 1 coverage all day it's going to be a field day for him

Regardless Tanny has a long-term plan for all of this, he wouldn't do it just for a year crack at a superbowl when we were in the AFCCG last season

How many times do I tell you that I don't think so before you realize that I don't think so?
I'd like to keep everyone too, the only problem is that we have a shit-ton of other contracts to deal with aside from two WRs.
That is the best way that I can think of building a solid WR corps. Keep the better one, let the other guy go, and get an actual slot WR to take over as #3.

The only way that happens is if there ends up being no salary cap for the next 5 years. And as much as D. Smith would like to panic the fans into thinking so, I think that chance, as much as I would like it, is tiny.

we should go after Shipley perhaps, and see how this year goes with Holmes, and Edwards.

Although next year's draft is supposedly huge with WR's.

If Shipley makes it to the 4th and is BPA then fine. He's not worth a #2 pick on this offense right now.
