if the jets lock up taylor this week tanny will have accomplished his goal of going into the draft with no definitive needs. this trade for holmes signifies to me that they will be looking to trade down if at all possible from #29. the only position i think still needs to be drafted is OLB. taylor would be being brought in as a stopgap and it would be great to have a guy developed and ready to step right into the pass rushing role when taylor's time is up. other than that i think looking to trade down for more picks at every opportunity is the way to go. with the exception of the one DE spot this team is solid at every starting position now. the goal needs to be to draft some quality depth for the upcoming season.
If it is the BPA? I would say they might. Being that I really don't see them signing both Edwards and Holmes next year. With Tanny, you never know.
I think they will either sign best player available or trade down to add some depth, personally I would go with depth.
That's true. I'd rather not think about 2011 financials yet . If Tanny can figure out how to keep them together, they are all fairly young.
We trade our first for Brandon Marshall We trade our second for Ben Roethlisberger We trade our fourth for Terrell Owens We trade our sixth for Walter Payton We use our seventh on a kicker that can tackle. Filler.
would not be surprised to see them trade out of 1st round, especially if Jard Ordick or a OLB they are targeting is gone. If they like Ricky Sapp he should be there in the early 2nd round
Hey, I'd be happy with a top Guard or tackle now. I worry about an injury on the O-Line. I know our D can compensate for injury (as they did with Jenkins last season) but an injury like that on our O-Line could f*ck us up big time. I want the best lineman available - D or O. I still do not want Taylor. When our dream is realized and the players get their rings his face is not one I want to see amongst them. Sorry. I just can't accept that.
Iupati would be the perfect pick for us at 29 and E.Norwood or Cam Thomas with our 2nd rounder. Best.Offseason.EVER.
If Taylor signs, we have our starting lineup (semi-exception: safety). So we should be looking for players who will replace the existing starters the following year who we will not be able/need/want to keep (most likely either Edwards/Holmes, Taylor - if he's signs, Faneca/Woody, Washington, DE, Cromartie). So this puts the positions to target at, IMO of course, S, WR, OLB, OL, RB, DE, CB - not in that order though - no order really. Obviously there are a lot of factors in play, but whoever they pick in the first two rounds (assuming they are not absolute busts) I think will reflect and reveal who they envision not returning the following year. Personally, I'd like to see OL, DL or CB.
Signing Taylor won't change a thing in my opinion. We still need a quality pass rusher, so I'm guessing that will be our first pick.
With all of the signings this offseason, this looking to be a very boring draft for the Jets. Lots of big, fat guys will be signed.
I'm thinking the opposite as far as trading down. I think filling the need at WR gives us even more reason to find a way to move up in the draft for a special player. The one area we haven't addressed in this offseason has been DL- we even lost a player there. I really think that fourth rounder and/or a player is going to be used to put us up a few spots in round one. Maybe a trade with Philly if Odrick is still on the board.
