I really hope you are wrong, but im starting to get the same feeling. Jones, Rhodes, and now Thomas? I thought what we had in 2009 was pretty good and I wanted to see that team stay together. I dont understand why were not just resigning guys and building through the deepest draft in years. Really starting to get worried over here.
Yeah, saves the boss more $$$$ to be able to sign Revis, Mangold, Ferguson and Harris...We need someone on the D-line that could rush the passer. That's the bottom line, football players have become financial 'mercenaries'. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Gholston is gonna make it…. Peace out.
You got it. The Jets FO is trying to upgrade positions for bargain prices in an effort to free up space to sign our cornerstone players. That's why Feely ain't here anymore either. I'm sure the FO believe Feely is a better kicker than Folk, Rackers, or anyone else that was available. But the money is all about Revis, Mangold, D'Brick, Harris, etc. With all the $$$ guranteed to Sanchez up front, I'm surprised he hasn't come forward to restructure to get some extra peeps on. Kinda like a Tom Brady move a few years back.
Any chance this is false but that the Jets leaked this rumor thinking Taylor would be more likely to sign?
? I dont think Taylor is worried about getting enough playing time. Im pretty sure he knows that if he comes here he is going to be a starter and getting in on the action. And if Taylor does end up here, its for the exact same reason as LT. To get that ring .
Colts play a 4-3, and we know how Thomas plays in a 4-3, so that wouldn't work. Colts use 4 WR sets a lot anyway.
Not to mention the colts drafted him in the first round 2 or 3 years ago and hes not even in his prime yet. Now theyre gonna trade him for a 31 year old linebacker ?
Unless we accomplish getting a significant upgrade over, Thomas. I just could not see the logic here. I would much rather stick to the foundation we have in place here, instead of shuffling the pieces that are already in place in this scheme. Just wouldn't make much sense to me.
I disagree. He struggled when he left the Phins to pursue another team. What makes you think he will play hard and dominant for the Jets? He dispises the Jets, it will always be there with this guy, and I feel like it will take away from his intensity if he isn't in teal. His age alone makes him a down grade. He surely can't have much left in the tank at this point, especially if he was to go to another team. I just don't see it.
Quite obviously the majority of Jets fan base is very optimistic. The fact that you have extra baggage to throw away does NOT mean there will be a suitor, especially if that excess baggage happens to be a barely-average 31 year OLB that is known to be slow as fuck. Find the suitor first, then think about what you will do by trading him away.
very true, e-bola was the best beat writer we have had for a awhile. it's a real shame he only stuck around for a year. But he did his job so well, he got the ability to go to the job he wanted, working the Yankees beat.
Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger reports outside linebacker Bryan Thomas’ roster spot is safe regardless of whether the Jets land free agent Jason Taylor, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person requested anonymity because Taylor hasn’t signed with the Jets. Phew, Tanny isnt going nuts
The only scoop Rich Cimini has ever gotten had chocolate sprinkles on it. He makes shit up so people read his crap.
Heres the whole article: Outside linebacker Bryan Thomas’ roster spot is safe regardless of whether the Jets land free agent Jason Taylor, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person requested anonymity because Taylor hasn’t signed with the Jets. Translation: The Jets won't trade or release Thomas no matter what Taylor decides. Taylor, a six-time Pro Bowler, was given the red-carpet treatment today in Phase 2 of Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum’s attempt to woo the 13-year veteran to help the Jets’ pedestrian pass rush. Thomas – who signed a five-year, $25 million extension through 2011 -- won’t be traded or released, according to the person. Taylor briefly met with some players during the morning weightlifting session at the team’s Florham Park training facility. The NFL active leader in sacks would complement outside linebacker Calvin Pace, who led the team with eight sacks (in 12 games) last season. Although Thomas only had two sacks last year, he played an integral part filling in for Pace, who was suspended for the first four games of last season, when Vernon Gholston underachieved. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who called Thomas “an unsung hero for the first quarter of our season” in October for his versatility in dropping into pass coverage and rushing the quiarterback, told the veteran that the team would likely pursue “a good pass rusher on third downs.” “I know that my productivity as far as getting sacks wasn’t there,” Thomas said during Thursday’s voluntary offseason workouts. “But a lot of times, (rushing the passer) is not (responsible for) doing much of the time.” Thomas repeatedly said he no qualms about the team’s decision to woo Taylor. “If that’s something that they’re doing to improve the team, I’m all for it,” Thomas said. “I’m not going to hate on it… I’m going to work hard no matter what. I’m not going to be discouraged. They bring in people every year.” http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/201...yan_thoma.html
