Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports it's believed the Jets may release or try to trade OLB Bryan Thomas, 31, if they land Jason Taylor. What kind of value could we get for Thomas? I don't think it would be much, 5th or 6th?
a very late pick or maybe somehow tanny could grab somebody's 3rd or 4th wr for the slot. that about the only two things i could see.
Gholston better do a total 180 this season.....or trading Bryan Thomas is gonna be a big piece of egg dripping off Tanny's face.
How about trading Thomas to indy for WR Anothony Gonzalez. Since Garcon and Collie showed themselves as ballers, I think this would be an interesting trade.
That would be a great trade, but i doubt it would ever happen. He doesn't fit their style of defense and is not worthy of Anthony Gonzalez.
That would be clutch, but I still think the Colts have high hopes for Gonzalez... he was their #2 receiver going into last season.
Thomas is a below average starting OLB being paid an above average salary. If we can get a 5th and 7th you trade him.
i like thomas i think he is solid. but i also am not beyond getting rid of him but i would not just release him. i would try to get anything for him or at least us him in a package trade, maybe during the draft?
Jets won't release him he will be used to get picks along with leon. Clearly Rex wants an upgrade its about time we trusted our coach/GM. They deserve it!
If Taylor signs, I fully expect Tanny to keep Thomas at least till the draft (as long as there isn't some contract issue like a bonus due before then or something like that which I'm not aware of). At the very least, he is a solid player the Jets could add into a draft day trade to move up or down in case they are targeting someone. Releasing him would not make much sense before then barring a contract issue as I stated before.
I want to punch Jason Taylor Ham in the face- Ham as in showboat, not the bacon or ham used on a breakfast sandwich.
They have 3 very capable receivers on the roster already tho. Maybe in we trade Thomas and a 7th for Gonzalez they could bite on that.
Even if Taylor does sign, It would be idiotic to just release him this season....... and I think think he's overrated & overpaid. JT will be 36. Rotate him on passing downs to keep those legs fresh to get after the QB
Surely, you cannot be serious. The Colts would hang up on Tanny before he even finishes the request. Gonzalez is a former 1st round pick, and he is still 25 years old. There is no way they would do that trade. Thomas also doesn't even fit into their defensive philosophy which is based on small, quick guys swarming and attacking all over the field. I understand they might have too many of wide receivers on the roster ATM, but you'd need to give up more than that for A. Gonzalez. The Colts are high on him, and Thomas isn't valuable enough to pry him away from them.
WTF sense does this make? Taylor is over the hill, and will surely continue his decline in terms of production this season. Thomas is Jets born and raised, 5 years younger, and already knows the defense. Anyone else starting to feel like the '00 Redskins?
This is my major fear about the Jets at this point. We need to remember that for all the good things he's done with them Tannenbaum is still only 32-32 as the GM and he has not produced anything that looks remotely like a dominant team in that span. The Jets looked really good down the stretch last year but they looked like a last place team for stretches of the season also.
