(Greg Trott / Associated Press) Brandon Marshall is running out of time to get an offer sheet from another team as a restricted free agent. With 10 days remaining to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets, the market for Marshall remains at a murmur, save for his visit to Seattle early during the free agency period. The Seahawks appear to be taking a wait-and-see approach on Marshall, with coach Pete Carroll saying almost two weeks ago there is still “some potential” for a deal. Another destination that has run hot and cold on the rumor mill — the New York Jets — appears to be out at this point. According to the Daily News, league sources maintain the Jets are not interested in signing or trading for Marshall. Marshall was extended a first-round tender by the Broncos, a significant level of compensation for teams who might believe that price will come down during or after the draft. If the Broncos lower their reported demands for a first-round pick as part of a trade, however, perhaps other suitors would emerge. Denver Post columnist Dave Krieger updated us last week on teams that could be interested in Marshall, listing the Buccaneers, Jaguars, Panthers, Redskins and Bears. Initially, some are more realistic than others. Following the trade for Donovan McNabb, the Redskins are without picks in the second and third rounds. The Panthers are without a first-round pick, the Jaguars have no second-round pick, and the Bears have no picks in the first two rounds. The Bucs are in the best position, with two second-round picks. Good riddance. Can't deny the guys talent but I really didn't want this guy coming here with his off the field history and his distractions.
Yeah that was my thought too. It'd be an interesting locker room next year with all the Primadonnas catfighting over their turf. One thing that has occurred to me is that the Jets are really starting to look like the first few years of Vinny Cerrato's reign in Washington. Lots of trades, lots of big name free agents, lots of personalities flowing in and out of the locker room as all of the above occur. The Redskins looked really good in Cerrato's early years but could never get over the hump because they kept having players drop out on them due to injuries and age, which caused them to go get more name free agents to replace them. Then he got fired for one year because Marty Schottenheimer knew that this was no way to run a football team. Then Schottenheimer couldn't put Cerrato's mess back together again and HE got canned and Snyder rehired Cerrato and let him slowly trash the Skins with the same MO that had gotten them in trouble in the first place. I'm not saying Tannenbaum is headed the same way but drafting Champ Bailey didn't ultimately do squat for the the Redskins chances to win a Super Bowl because too many other stupid moves were happening alongside him.
I'd only want Marshall if we got rid of Edwards.This would definetly be an upgrade.I can't see both of them being productive on the same team, there just aren't enough balls to go around. Giving up a high pick to add a WR doesn't sit well with me as i feel we have other pressing needs that have to be addressed first.
Let's start another thread about how this statement is really a smoke screen for us to lower his price so we can sign him. Yeah. :rofl:
They have been interested for two years and when "league sources" say something most likely the exact opposite is the truth. Why on earth would the Jets let anybody in the league know what they are thinking when they know full well that douchebag would leak it to the media 5 minutes later.
I think Vinny Cerrato had as much say in the player acquisition during his first few years as Lane Kiffin did in the drafting of Jamarcus Russell, honestly. Cerrato was an excellent college scouting guy for the 49ers for years, gets hired by the Skins and all they did was trade picks away for 'marquee players' and sign old veterans in the twilight of their careers. Daniel Snyder ruined that team. I'm not sure I'd be so quick to lay that at Vinny's door. As far as the comparison to the Jets' current state, maybe TOmlinson and Favre could be compared to that group of over the hill guys like Bruce Smith and Mark Carrier and Jeff George and Deion Sanders, but I'm not sure you can really go one-for-one and make that comparison work.
Who believes this article is true? I wouldn't believe it even if (or especially if) Tanny said we're not interested in BM.
I think our picks can be put to better use than adding another high priced receiver. Edwards and Cotchery are a fine pair of starting receivers. What we need is a guy to play in the slot. Guys like that can be found in the middle rounds or on the scrap heap. Look at the successful slot guys.. Welker, Chrebet, Davone Bess on Miami, Ricky Proehl, Brandon Stokley. None of those guys were high picks. A guy I'd like to see with a mid-round pick would be Jordan Shipley.
My thoughts exactly, I really think our need for a wideout is overrated. People seem to forget that we have Keller at TE too, who is basically a third receiver on the field. I surely wouldn't mind taking a receiver in the later rounds but if we use #29 on Tate or Thomas like many have us doing, I'll be very disappointed. Our #1 priority should be to build depth on our aging O and D lines... as of right now one injury to a starter on the line could be the difference between 7-9 and 11-5.
