I am just glad we got a replacement for Feely right now in Nick Folk. The Neil Rackers idea doesn't sound too bad either since I have never really watched Nick Folk kick in open air arena's so I am alittle skeptical on him kicking in New Meadowlands. I know Rackers can kick pretty well also and didn't play in a dome for a few years.

He missed one kick against Atlanta, the other 2 were not his fault. He is the best kicker we have probably ever had and kickers are not a dime a dozen. he's a big reason we made the title game and a K is the biggest reason we missed out on the title game in '04.

Wallace Wright is a damn good special teams player and I was sad to see him go, but he can easily be replaced.

Nick Folk has way more potential than Feely.

Shonn Greene is replacing Thomas Jones, not Tomlinson. Tomlinson was signed to fill Greene's old spot.

Feely's miss in the AFCC gave Manning and the Colts momentum. It is one of the few reasons we lost that game.

I'm not going to waste my Friday arguing with you over a mediocre kicker.

Me neither. Consistent, reliable guy, good athlete and definitely a team player. The misses in the playoffs are not reason enough to not attempt to retain him.

Folk had made 87% of his kicks before last year, and he probably wasn't fully recovered from his surgery. If he is now, he could be a better option than Feely.

Also, I'm not sure I love my place kicker putting his body on the line, because he often doesn't have a capable backup, and he is more physically vulnerable than anyone else on the field.

This is also good news because we can sign another FA before the draft now. Hopefully we can pick up a CB for depth, or maybe a S if Feely's deal was big enough ::crosses fingers::

Not a fan of this either, Tanny's taking a huge risk by going with Folk - a guy who couldn't even hold on to his job last season because his team couldn't trust him down the stretch. Hopefully he just needs a change of scenery and can replicate his 2007 season.

Question: If Douglas signs elsewhere, can we combine his FA "value" with Feely's and sign someone, like Sharper, for the sum of their two contracts? Because I don't think either alone would be enough to sign Sharper, but combined they might.

It was an asinine decision to attempt that FG in that situation. That was a difficult kick w/ the risk outweighing the reward.

I'm pretty sure we let this happen to sign another free agent. We'll find out soon enough.

Let's hope so. I don't see any other reason for Tannenbaum to let Feely slip through his fingers unless it was intentional.

I just don't get it. Now that's being cheap. Now our kicker and punter are concerns.

He needed a lot more than just a change of scenery. He needed his mechanics fixed after his rush back from injury changed his habits. By all accounts, he has those mechanics fixed. This could be a great move, but for now it's highly questionable to those of us (all of us) who haven't seen how Folk's currently kicking.

No. We can't combine contract values. It's one to one.

I can't believe how many of you are complaining of losing Feely because "he makes an effort to tackle."

Who cares? Westhoff isn't drawing up his kickoff coverages relying on Feely to make a tackle, it is a nice luxury the few times it happens and pumps some people up, but it is not vital to our coverage.

i would like to thank jay for all his efforts while he was employed by the new york jets.from him setting the all time consectutive FG's made by a jets place kicker to him stepping up big in the wild card game and punting for us even though he had never done it before.

but i cant excuse him missing 2 BIG FG's in the AFC Championship Game.

    take care Jay

Hate seeing Jay go, but as one door closes, another one opens.
I think that this move serves a greater purpose and who will come in now.
The question remains, is Folk going to be better or worse, whatever turns out the drop off or rise will not be that much.

this sucks, he has a lot of heart and versatility for a kicker. No clue why we wouldnt have any interest in keeping him.

Folk crumbled under pressure from Jerry Jones and it showed on the field.

I would think that now, the Folk for Feely move HAS to bring a FA over. If it doesn't, it'll be more added pressure to Folk when the regular season comes. Feely was a fan favorite, and if his release means we're gonna roll the dice on Folk and his "potential" for the season...any misses will be magnified by the media AND the fans on gameday.

The question now is, which can get more inside a kicker's head? Jerry Jones telling u to make a kick from the sidelines? Or the NY media and 80,000 fans booing you for missing make-able FG's at the top of their lungs on several nationally televised games?

I really hope Folk works out.

We better wind up signing someone for this now. It doesn't make sense that Tanny would let Feely go without something up his sleeve.
