I really don't see why TF we couldn't just sign him, at least for equivalent money. Not only was he a quality kicker, he made efforts to tackle on kickoffs (clearly abnormal for a kicker), and contributed nicely to the overall mentality change this team went through last season.

If it was just about money, this move is probably the worst the FO has made in the past two years.

That wasn't his only game it was Atlanta as well, which at the time was looked upon as a make or break game.

For the last f-ing time he is just a kicker. They are a dime a dozen. It wasn't like this guy had ice water in his veins. He had a penchant for missing big kicks. Great he was a rah-rah guy and all but really he is just a kicker.

Edit: Just to be clear.............I liked Feely, thought he was a good kicker and a good addition to the team because of his moxie. Which is unusual for that position. That being said he missed some big kicks, some in bad weather some in a dome. I feel that he is not an integral part of the Jets and no big f-ing deal that he is gone..........................In essence he is just a kicker. A charismatic one for sure but nonetheless just a kicker.

I agree with this, but it's also pretty true of Doug Brien, and that guy was run out of town with pitchforks and torches. The difference? The head coach of one team scapegoated the kicker while the HC of the other took responsibility for the loss.

I wouldn't have cared about him resigning until the game in playoffs when he was forced to punt. He fucked up on 1st one who wouldnt when its first time in a game doing so but he had decent ones after that. I also liked his moxy when it came to making tackles you don't find many kickers willing to lay a guy out.

Don't worry guys, Nick Folk is a Pro-Bowler so we're good.

It's a headscratcher why Feely was allowed to leave, and I really hate to ever quote dcm, but..."Tanny ain't stupid".

I feel like the FO must have liked what it saw out of Folk. Feely was one of the best kickers I've seen on this team, but that doesn't mean the position couldn't be improved. If Folk is back to his old ways, he'll be even better than Feely. If he's actually improved on his kicking from a few years ago? Watch out.

2003 - John Hall, an erratic strong-legged kicker but still a big part of the Jets special teams persona with his booming kickoffs that turned into a fair number of touchbacks, signs with Washington for a silly amount of money because the Jets weren't interested in locking him up long-term.

The Jets signed a consistent 33 year old journeyman named Doug Brien to replace him, and Brien served adequately for 2 years before being let go after the two missed kicks in the playoffs against the Steelers in 2004.

2010 - Jay Feely, a consistent 33 year old journeyman who was a big part of the Jets special teams persona with his aggressive tackling style as the safety, signs with Arizona for what I expect we'll discover was not a huge contract because the Jets really just didn't show all that much interest in him, possibly because of the two missed kicks against the Colts in the AFC Championship game.

The Jets have apparently decided to replace him with Nick Folk, an erratic strong-legged kicker, who hopefully will give the Jets some touchbacks next year.

I guess we'll just hope this all works out in the end. Not losing Leon Washington also would be a hopeful sign.

Am I the only one who doesn't like a lot of the decisions this off-season? Other than trading for Cromartie, I don't like the TJ-for-LT swap, don't like losing Wallace Wright, and certainly don't like Nick Folk over Jay Feely.

This is the one offseason move so far that I am really not a fan of. It's certainly not the end of the world to lose a kicker, but I felt pretty good about FG's with Feely back there. This year was probably the first time I can remember feeling confident about field goals. Sure he missed a couple big kicks, but he made plenty of big kicks as well. I was ready to hand Feely player of the game after the first half of the Bengals wild-card game.

Hopefully the FO knows something about Folk that I don't, because he looked terrible for the cowgirls last year.

Eh, TGG is my first love, but there's nothing wrong with getting a little strange as long as you're not getting it from the ugly fat whore that gives it up to everyone.

    Meh.. I'm ok with everything.

The one major move that we made this offseason was for, Cro. That is a huge gain. Plus one for us.

TJ and LT debate is apples and oranges to me. Not a big difference to me, they are both reaching the end of their careers, we wouldn't be looking at either of those players to be the feature back for this team anyway, not a big deal.

Wallace Wright is a great ST player, but he is just that, a ST player.

Jay Feely is the man, and he shows no fear on the field. A lot of passion. I loved him as a Jet, but he is just a kicker. Not the most significant part of a football team and I'm sure the Jets will figure out the best viable option for us at that position, no biggie.

While I do not agree with most of the moves I am to the point with Tanny where I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

not a big fan of this move either, not sure what the motivation is..........we definitely know it aint easy finding a mentally tough kicker who can kick outside in NY......granted Feely had a few (very few) yips this past season.......he'll be missed

oh yeah, and I think we are all critical of most moves because we're finally coming off a somewhat real successful season relatively speaking, so losing the guys that contributed to that success is always questionable.....

not a fan of the LT TJ swap either, but somehow I think that one may work out in the end.......

...because he's a mediocre-at-best kicker that missed in the playoffs.
