Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens in 'no real rush' to sign restricted free agent contract That'd be cool if we got a third rounder for Kellen. Let the Erik Ainge(sp?) era of backup begin!
So wait, Coleman hasn't signed his tender yet? WOOOOO!!!! I can finally celebrate a time since 2006 when Drew Coleman was(temporarily) off of the team.
If we lose Kellen kiss our chances to win anything goodbye! Who else would we get to massage Sanchez and hold a clipboard at the same time?
If we brought Strickland back..the Jets should of rested him til week 14. yeah I wish he could play well. some of the shit he has said in the past was truly classy, and he tricked me everytime he was about to start.
I was one of Mark's biggest supporters right from the start, but I wanted him to get at least a few weeks on the bench to learn. I'll admit it, and I was wrong. As far as Clemens, I'm still holding out hope that we can swing a 6th or 7th rounder for him. I don't have a LOT of hope, but some.
I didn't want Clemens to be the starter for long, but I advocated letting him sit and learn until possibly week 8. Most NFL teams tend to do that, so it wasn't the most outlandish of scenarios.
Yeah, it's hard not to like him as a person. I just don't want to see him on the field for our team. Still, he 110% committed and gave himself to the Jets. He even re-did his basement for the team:
i agree he is a class act and i also agree he will never really be more then a backup but you cant fault the guy for thinking other wise. im sure no qb in the league comes in wanting to be a back up. and i like clemens, he does suck something awful but he is a decent back up compared to other options out there
Clemens really needs a change of address at this point both for his good and the Jets. He's not a player that inspires confidence in this offense and he's even shaky in secondary roles, like as the holder on FG's and PAT's. He probably really needs to go play in the UFL or CFL for a season and actually get 400 throws under his belt. His history with the Jets has been to blow those opportunities when handed them and I don't see why we'd expect him to do anything different if he somehow got thrust into the starter's role next season. Kurt Warner was a nobody at 26 and an All-Pro at 28, NFL Europe happened in between and let him get a running start on his career after he had basically been given up on. I'm not suggesting that Clemens has any real prospects of that kind of breakout but he's a similarly classy guy stuck in a lousy situation for him and he needs a change or he'll stay in the rut.
Before the season started a lot of people were outright against drafting a QB and were wanting to give Clemens a chance.
