Just thought this but scary enough with the Pats also interested he maybe easier to trade over there, with them having 3 2nd round picks (44th,47th,53rd)
Do not want the Pats to sign him to an offer sheet. He fills an immediate need there and their own 2nd rounder (53) isn't high enough to merit him going to a division rival.
Yes this is true BUT if no one else offers us a 2nd rounder and only 3rds we'd almost have to unfortunately. Id shoot for the 47th though and if they offer the 53rd pick make them give up there 4th (119th) the more picks the better. But dont get me wrong id hate if he was a gaytriot
We cannot actually trade him unless he signs our offer sheet, which he has gone through every possible means to prove he has no intention of doing.
I can't believe how people are worried about LW getting a chance to play us twice a year with our defense and him coming off such a terrible injury. I loved Leon and thought he had Brian Westbrook lite potential. But prior to his injury we gave him a lot of "starter carries". Unlike years past where he would usually get a bulk of his limited carries in the 2nd half, he got plenty of them in the 1st half of games and didn't play at a high level like he was in his more traditional back up role. Other then the Buffalo game(against a terrible run defense) he wasn't THAT impressive. He was NOT starter material prior to his injury. To get a 2nd rd pick, even a 3rd rd pick, at this point is a STEAL. RBs are so easy to replace and the ones of Leon's caliber could be replaced on the 2nd or 3rd day. We can take the draft pick we acquired for him and turn it into something more valuable like a potential starting safety or depth in the trenches. Leon is 28 years old coming off a injury that will probably affect his lateral movement and side to side cuts. Bringing up facts like he hasn't carried the ball a lot in his career so he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear and is a young 28 was offset by his devastating injury. If we trade him to a division rival and we have problems containing him, we should kiss those super bowl dreams good bye because there are much tougher challenges and assignments in the NFL then holding down Leon Washington lol.
Damn did not realize that. Well IMO its not horrible if we had no better offers but Leon as a secondary screen pass to possible Welker ( after he comes back from the injury) is a scary scary thought. We'd have to get even quicker at LB.
If team A has multiple picks in a round and signs a FA to an offer sheet from team B, team B will be compensated with team As original draft pick. Example if the Seahawks wanted to sign Brandon Marshall to a offer sheet, the compensation 1st rd pick HAS to be their #6 pick, not their lower 14th pick. Both teams have no say on which pick is sent and received.
I'd say good-bye Leon. There ain't no way he's going to be the same back that he once was, no-way, no how, with that type of injury. Why some people are hanging on is a mystery to me, when you know you have damaged goods. Do people actually expect him to come back and be the same type of performer he once was?????????? Foooolish!!!! Not going to happen.
Definitely agree with you my friend he offers us nothing after this season and is definitely a 50/50 player. He may explode and be great or He may get re-injured and/or not have the same production. For all of you who feel he needs to be kept you are foolish unless somehow he proves to be better during the season or training camp, but to wait for production with limited carries over the next season would be stupid. Which shows he needs to be traded before training camp.
How did this go from debating whether the 43rd overall pick would be enough to let him go to people declaring he HAS to be traded? He doesn't HAVE to go anywhere. In fact, I hope the floor on acceptable trade values if he doesn't sign an offer sheet is pretty damn high. It's not worth it to let him walk for a 4th or lower, and I'd probably vote against trading him for a 3rd.
I was just stating the fact that the Pats also have interest and if the Dolphins drop out would we take the 53rd. But I feel im right that he HAS to be traded the benefits of trading to get a high 2nd outweigh the benefits of having a 3rd string RB, thats injured, a question mark for 2010, and may not want to be on this team after this season.
There would be no "trading" Leon for a 2nd rounder. He was tendered at a 2nd rounder. If no one signs him to an offer sheet before the 15th, it means we'd looking at trading his rights away for one season. If no one pays the price of a 2nd rounder to lock him up long term, they're not going to be paying it to have him for a year and hope he signs a new deal. At that point, the offers are likely in the range of a 4th rounder, so no...I'd say he doesn't HAVE to be traded.
Id be content if we got a 3rd and 6th, 4th and 5th, or even a 3rd and 5th (ideally) for him. Gladly take multiple late mid round draft picks for him in this draft.
Hopefully the Dolphins will low ball him, and then the Jets match. Then maybe Leon will reconsider the decision he made by picking that agent he has now. Leon should have took the offer the Jets made him last year before he got hurt.
