Keels can pull all the strings he wants, at the end of the day it's up to the player to make the decision that is best for him. I want Leon long term, I want him signe dto a 3-4 year deal and that is still very possible. LT has MAYBE a year or 2 left, he's not a long term solution so if we get rid of leon we might need to draft not one but TWO RBs. It doesn't make any sense.
of course you have to ignore the fact that the Jets have a predetermined value for Leon and if the Dolphins offer exceeds that, it would be foolish to match it. are you honestly saying that if Miami offered him $7 million a year you think the Jets should match it. if not, than you are agreeing with what everyone else is saying, that he has a set value, the Jets should adhere to that value and not let another team dictate to them that they should overpay him just to keep him, thus the situation isn't simply the Jets should match any contract offered as you just argued. with that established, the Jets have to weigh the option that a team may offer more than they are willing to pay him, thus they have to consider trading him instead of losing him for nothing. that is what is being discussed.
you don't even know if Leon will be the same after his injury.....but you're willing to give him a 3-4 year contract based on his history?? LOL. thank god you're not running this team, junc. I wish you were running the Yankees though.
you're wasting your breath, JB.....he'll take your post and rebute it with something to do with Joba Chamberlain.
The salary #s are irrelevant, it's the guaranteed money that matters. People are assuming he'll get some crazy offer- why? of course if he got an opffer to get paid like LT a few years ago we'd have to let him walk but that has never entered this discussion. I have said multiple times it's based on health. If they feel he can come back yes I give him 3-4 years, if they feel he can't that's the only way I'd be ok w/ them letting him go. Thank god YOU and the draftniks aren't running this team, the drafts would look like the '97-'99 drafts w/ a million picks and 95% of them bad. Here we go w/ the insults and the deflecting. Just try to keep up and stick to the topic, if you can't move along. No need for the insults and deflections. I gave you good examples but b/c they reinforced my point and showed how your point made no sense you attack me.
I'd take Miami's second round pick in exchange for Leon, as tough as that is to swallow. If there is a very reasonable contract offer made and the Jets staff are confident in his recovery I'd say match the contract.. but that 2nd rounder this year is very tempting, especially considering the good 2nd/3rd round RB prospects coming out this year.
actually...you're NOT giving good examples....in fact...it's borderline "making shit up" because deep down you know you're wrong. But i keep forgetting who i'm dealing with here. And there's no insults being thrown...you're the one who brought the Yankees (god knows why) into the debate....despite it making no sense whatsoever....horrible analogy. You know nothing about my draft strategies....so don't assume to know you do. If it were up to you....Pennington would be quarterbacking this team from a wheelchair. So i wouldn't toss any stones if i were you. I'm done with this argument, junc....go ahead and live in your dream world. Myself and the rest of TGG will continue to focus on reality.
I don't see any of the more prevalent draftniks in this thread, except for Mr. E, and he has long underrated Leon IMO. In fact, I debated with him a few weeks ago that I thought we could match and retain Leon. You keep insisting people just don't like Leon or want to abandon him. That's simply not the case. We lookat the circumstances and see it as near impossible to keep him. Again, where has his desire to remain a Jet gone this offseason? You're right that peopleare dismissing your examples because none of them apply. This is a unique and highly unfortunate confluence of circumstances. The only other player I'd love to trade for picks is Kellen Clemens. What does that say about the effect of Alvin Keels? As far as Miami, if they want him and value him that highly, do you really think they're going to sign him to an offer sheet that makes it easy for us to lock him up for a few years? Parcells is smarter than that. As far as the arguments you've dropped in this thread, you're smarter than that, too. You really should consider walking away from this one.
They are good examples using your flawed logic but b/c they don't back up your flawed logic you attack me. Crazy me, if it was up to me I don't make the awful favre trade and we win the division in 2008 for only the 3rd time since the merger but hey at least you bought yourself a Favre jersey and were entertained w/ his INTs so obviously you know much more than I do about football
bahahahaha.....you should visit us in "reality" sometime, junc.....we have cookies. i never attacked you....not once. Stop whining about nothing. It's not my fault you submitted a weak argument.
You have been attacking the entire time but that is what I expect from someone w/ such a weak argument. Attack and deflect.
whatever, junc. I never attacked you once.....just your stupid argument. you remember the one...."hey guys, instead of getting conpensation for Leon Washington...let's let him walk and receive nothing instead....I don't want blood on my hands". It's almost sig worthy. Or how about the Hideki Matsui/Johnny Damon comparison to Leon's situation.....that was a gem too.
Because his agent has demonstrated time and time again that he has no real value of Leon's worth. He pushed for an unrealistic contract last year, he has continued to inflate his worth this offseason, and now he talks about it as if Leon's departure is a foregone conclusion. So, either a team bites and signs him to a ridiculous offer sheet or he comes in next season feeling like he doesn't want to play here and will be leaving as a UFA. It's absolute garbage, and I can't figure out why Leon is swallowing it.
What, we win the division? Based on what? Pennington staying healthy in NY? Where is the history for that leap? If Pennington was still here he would have probably been lost for the season in the third preseason game. That history is nearer to reality.
Nice of you to cut and paste the quote but what would i expect from someone who is completely over their head in this discussion. this is a joke, right? You cannot be for real.
His agent is doing his JOB, he is trying to get more offers on the table to get Leon signed long term for the most money possible. Gee I don't know, based on winning the div w/ a team half as talented as the 2008 Jets.
yeah...i want compensation for a player coming off a major injury, who's more than likely gonna walk anyway.....I'm certainly OVER MY HEAD, junc. keep dreamin'.
Since you know what is going to happen please let us know how this season will play out so we can save ourselves the heartache. Again, if he could help us get to and win a SB this year then walk- would that be worth it or would you still be mad we didn't get a pick?
