Take the pick and run. There's no guarantee he'll be 100% this season, or even ever be what he once was.
Just curious, can anybody see us packaging both #2's and moving up for Spiller? Assuming we let LW go. That would fill both the RB and ST needs.
holy christ, junc....are you really comparing Leon's role with Jenkins' role on this team? The running game didn't miss a beat without Leon....yet, Rex had to think outside the box to fill the hole Jenkins left in the Dline. How is that flawed logic? Jenkins is 10x more important to the Jets than Leon Washington....by a country mile. Yeah, he was great.....then he got injured. Do you know what we have in Leon currently, junc?? because i don't....End of story there. Well...i'll say it again.....There's nothing preventing Leon from walking to a Div rival after next season....only in that case...it'll be for nothing. Is it sinking in yet? IF WE CAN GET A 2ND ROUND PICK FOR HIM NOW....IT'S BETTER THAN LETTING HIM WALK FOR NOTHING.
keep an injured 3rd down scat back for one season or get a #2 pick / player that will contribute for the next 4-6 years.
YES! I think Leon was as big of a loss as Jenkins was. he is our best playmaker on offense. if jenkins was 10x more important how come the offense got worse w/o Leon and the D got better w/o Jenkins? I'd rather let him walk if that is the case. At least there is no blood on our hands, do you think Miami feels better having gotten picks for welker from NE?
It had nothing to do with the interceptions Sanchez was throwing. I agree our running game was in shambles last season...
MB highlights what's really the biggest problem here: Leon and his agent have spent this offseason consistently talking about the market he's building with OTHER teams. Not once have I heard him express a desire to stay with the Jets. All of the major unsigned RFAs talk about how badly they want a long term deal. We haven't seen that from Leon since last season when he couldn't negotiate with another team anyway. My biggest fear is that Keels has convinced Leon it's 100% about the money. If he doesn't sign an offer this season, do you really see us overpaying to keep him next year? While there is uncertainty surrounding him, and while we can get something, we should. I'm a huge fan of Leon, but my priority is always for the team.
Leon WAS our best playmaker, junc....we have no clue what we have with him this coming season.....i don't give a shit what he did last season or 2 seasons before that....I care about the upcoming season. are you saying Miami would feel better if they received NOTHING for Welker? LOL!! how the fuck did the offense get worse? we were the best rushing team in the NFL last year. And our rush defense was nothing to shake a stick at after Jenkins was shelved. Teams were able to run up the middle on us (ask Maurice Jones-Drew about that). We got by....but that aspect of the defense didn't get better, IMO. Rex put a bandaid on it. c'mon junc....dig deeper.
exactly...to a tee. IMO...Leon is gone after next season....regardless of what transpires this offseason. Barring a contract signed of course (if Leon proves he's healthy).
Thanks for the reminder. I forgot our run game regressed from -12 to 1 last season. I would have agreed with you prior to last season that Leon was our biggest offensive playmaker. With his injury and the emergence of our power style running game, though, that's just not true any more. If he's on the team this season, he'll be underutilized because he doesn't fit the gameplan.
Exactly. My ideal situation would be for Leon to return, show he's exactly who he's always been, sign a new contract, and retire a Jet. Unfortunately, I'm a realist. His decision to stay with Keels has all but killed that possibility.
WTF? Yes. Yes I do. Welker told the Phins he wanted to play in NE and the Pats threatened to poison pill the offer sheet. Why do you think they negotiated the extra pick? The Phins decided getting picks was better than losing him for less.
No they would have been better off keeping him and I don't think they drafted anyone good w/ those picks. Imagine we get a 2nd rounder from Miami and take a Gholston type or Dorian Boose,... We would have basically given Miami our best playmaker(and becoming their best playmaker) for nothing. I'll leave the Buf game out of it since he got hurt in that game but in the first 5 games our rush D allowed 131 carries for 552 yds for 4.2 YPC. Post Buf game our rush D allowed 247 carries for 884 yds for 3.6 YPC. I'm not saying we are better long term w/o jenkins but the impacts of losing him and leon were similar.
The situations are different, I was just using the example of losing a key player to a div rival. It boggles my mind how quickly fans turn on their players. One minute they are the greatets, the next they want them gone for a crapshoot of a draftpick.
what did Miami really get for welker who has turned into one of the best #2 WRs in the league? In their situation they had no choice but we do have a choice. Will it make you feel better if we get Dorian Boose for leon Washington while he kills us and the div year after year in Miami?
Sorry junc...that's fucking retarded. You're certainly entitled to your opinion...but that's something i'd expect from jtrain. I'm not disputing that....but my argument is that Rex had to put together a bandaid solution and use exotic alignments to make up for the loss of Jenkins. Replacing a NT is a higher mountain to climb...than replacing a scatback. Ummmm...no they're not. Not even close.
