Shawne Merriman Says “It’d be Great” to Play for the New York Jets lol. Kinda cool alot of players saying recently they would like to play for the Jets.(Asomugha, Darren Sharper) edit: btw Shawne Merriman is 25. 26 in May. I never knew he was so young.
Not a chance in hell he comes here, I doubt Woody would let him come here, especially with that whole Tila Tequilla/Casey Johnson drama, it would only bring back bad memories Plus the dude had a hard-on for performance enchancing drugs But that would be an interesting acquisition, another pass-rusher that def gets his
If anybody could help him turn around his career, it'd be Rex Having said that there is no way he's here next season
LT got cut because of performance NOT money, and Westbrook was cut because of injury. TJ is the only guy who actually got cut due to money. (yeah I know thats got noting to do with the thread). I think Merriman mostly said hed like to come to the jets simply because how else are you supposed to answer a question like that. "Hell no I hate NY" It is nice that a lot of players want to come to NY but I really dont think Merriman is one of them. Guys like Aso, Sharper, TJ Houzfansajfnafnamada, A Thomas, theres plenty of guys who wanna be a jet but Merriman was just put on the spot there
Guy is a sharp businessman, but his inability to ingest further steroids (as a result of violating the substance abuse policy) and the state of his knee make him a bad risk. If he goes nowhere and is looking for a "show-me" contract come training camp, I'd take a look. He could platoon with Thomas and be a situational pass rusher. -X-
There's another way of looking at that. If LT and Westbrook were both scheduled to earn a million dollars this year, they'd still be a Charger and an Eagle, respectively. Their salary outweighed their value, just like Jones. By the way, this interview is barely connected to the Jets. Merriman did not say "it'd be great to play for the New York Jets." He said it'd be great to play on the East Coast. If you're a ferocious defensive player, and someone asks you if you'd like to play for the number one defense, for Rex Ryan, and you're response is "I like the East Coast," you probably don't know the Jets from the Giants.
