Ok, I've never understood this garbage about "sight lines". I've been to dozens of venues and there are shitty seats and good seats in every single one of them. Nobody has seen or heard a game in this stadium so how do you know it's going to be worse?
I've been to fedEx field in Maryland, this new Stadium looks simialr to that and in the upper level you are so far away it is ridiculous. It was nothing like the great viwes we had at the old Stadium. I have toured the new Stadium and the lower and mezzanine sections have great views but the upper deck you are really far away.
Sight-Lines Well, there were no obstructed views in the old stadium.... I wasn't just alluding to our new stadium, but new stadiums in general. They are built higher to accommodate the massive suites. This stadium? Better for some sure, worse for some others, sure of that too. What I was saying is that Giants Stadium will probably be remembered as the last stadium designed and built for primarily a good view of the field, for the regular joe in the stands. That will be its legacy. Giants fans will miss it more than we will simply because it was "Giants" Stadium. How's this "sight-line"?
That's just fucking great. Good job, guys. I wonder how much the PSL is for that seat. You own that baby, it's yours. Starting to be glad about the upper deck, no beams up there.
As a Jets fan, I love watching it get torn down. As a fan in general, I'm really sad. My first trip to the swamp was with my father to see a Cosmos game, long before I knew football existed. Then there were a few times I was on the field as a kid: local soccer, cub/boy scouts ceremonies, rolling posters for the USFL's Jersey Generals inaugural season. My stint as a member of the NJSEA security team, starting with World CUp in 94 and doing a few years part time roving parking lots, the Meadowlands fair, grabbing t-shirts form the illegal vendors, Billy Joel/Elton John, Floyd, Stones, the Dead... Of course I attended a few concerts, most memorable was The Metallica concert in 2000 with Slayer, Sevendust, and the group with the UPCs on the orange jumpsuits (can't remember) opening up. Of course the many Jets games, my short stint with season tickets, and still my most memorable - the 41-0 win over the colts in the playoffs. Its kinda bittersweet for me.
I just don't see how distance can be that much of a problem. I have been to UM and Texas A&M's stadiums and sat in nose-bleeds in both and didn't have any issues seeing the game. Watching on TV is the best way to watch a game, you go to the stadium for the atmosphere...
I was there too. That was a great show, it was called "Tattoo the Earth" and a one off for Metallica, since the rest of their tour was Summer Sanitarium with a different lineup. They actually played a great set. The band you forgot about was Slipknot...the crowd was into it which made it fun, but I wasn't into them (but their drummer is good). The crowd was really great though at the main stage. A funny part of that show was the bands yelling "Hello New York!!" and hearing the Jersey folks get pissed about it. I vaguely remember James Hetfield of Metallica later saying "New York, New Jersey...whatever". Another thing I remember was a band called (hed)pe distributing demo cassettes. 98% of those cassettes got thrown at them on stage because they sucked, all you saw was flying plastic hitting them with tape coming out of it like a ribbon. Good memories.
you guys make me feel old. i remember seeing metallica, guns and roses and faith no more opening up. 1992 it turns out.
When you are used to a certain distance and then you get pushed back it's an issue. fedEx was awful, I hope the Stadiums only look alike and that the view isn't the same. I go to games for the atmosphere but I love being able to see the whole field and not just focus on where the ball is. I was at that show, I believe it was July 29th, 1992.
Same sentiments here about the stadium in general, not for football. I saw Metallica there in 1988--Mosters of Rock. Lineup that day: Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, Scorpions, Van Halen. Also in 1989 Skid Row opening for Bon Jovi with Billy Squier and Sam Kinison performing in between the two bands on a hot Sunday afternoon in June. Sam got into a giant fight with Howard Stern on the radio the next morning, lasted all summer.
OK, let's make a comparison. I took this photo near, but not at the top row. There were still four or five rows behind me, believe it or not. FedEx Field has more upper rows, but is pretty steep. Compared to ours, I think it's close. Ours starts higher because of the suites and scoreboards, but has less rows though I think ours is swept back more. Hard to tell. This place was STEEP. Like, Yankee Stadium upper deck steep. Like, too many beers and you're afraid to lean forward or you'll fall onto the field steep.
That's a retarted statement. You go for the atmosphere, who cares if its in the nose bleeds. We all love the whole day, the preparation, the setup, the tailgate, the walk in, the team coming out of the tunnel, the chants and all that shit but when its said and done, I am there to WATCH a football game live, where I can watch the field and see what group of players are on the field, what formation we are in, not a close up of a coaches face or some stupid graphic. If the view is to far away and I can't enjoy watching the game, I am done, I don't care of Woody caters my tailgate, it still comes down to watching my Jets play football.
The bottom line is go to watch the game, I will sit anywhere but I want seats where I can still see the players #s.
