As it stands right now, I don't see us taking an OLB that early (as in our first 2 picks). Apparently Rex isn't ready to give up on Gholston yet, so it doesn't make much sense that Tanny would use another early round pick on a pass rusher (difficult transition to NFL). That's why I have OLB falling in my mock. However, an early pick on a slot receiver or defensive end can help us right away. I would definitely take a Golden Tate over a Demaryius Thomas in the 1st round. Tate would be able to help us right now (as a slot receiver) and I'm not nearly as high on Thomas as some of you are. Thomas has zero experience in a pro style offense and his route running hasn't been tested yet in his career.
Mark Sanchez will determine how far we go. If he progresses, we will be hard to beat. Edwards and Cotchery are good WRs. I like our offense the way it is, it's all about Sanchez. I definitely do not want to go WR in round 1.
The way that I look at it is if Brandon Graham is sitting there then he needs to be wearing green/white, if not then I would take Tate. But like all the talk around Brandon Marshall why not take him, he is better than any other wide out in this draft. Yah he is a piece of shit but he has hands.
We're not going to improve our 1/2 WR spots in the first round and a slot receiver certainly never carried a team to a Super Bowl.
It could get that first down that sustains an important scoring drive, not carrying, but simply being one of the oars on the boat.
Well. No. Once Manning figured that only blitz could create pressure, then it was a done deal - and Greene was out of the game and couldn't bail the Jets out then. True, Jenkins is coming back, and barring a freak injury (like he had last year, tearing ACL) Big Jenx will be anchoring the middle, commanding at least a double team. If I had to make my pick, I'd invest on a two-gapping DE that will start next Jenkins. Then those two guys will be neutralizing 4 of the opposing OL; Obviously Polian must have seen it too, since Ryan Lilja is indeed undersized OL, and if Colts have to invest 4 guys defending 2 guys on a regular basis, then they're in for a downfall. So, the correct step *that is in line with Jets philosophy* would be to find a way to generate pressure without having to commit too much into the blitz. That is done by drafting a DE and OLB, not a WR. I just don't see why people keep overlooking Cotchery. Ok... he is not those 'sexy' pick at WR position. When it comes to consistency, however, there is no one like him. It isn't like he cannot be a downfield threat either. Brett last year showed on a multiple occasions where he hit Cotchery for a big gain from a deep patterns. No, Cotchery is NOT a liability downfield. I also thought maybe Jets needed a slot receiver, but then realized that Schotty should be able to hand that safety blanket responsibility to Cotchery and Keller depending on the situation, which effectively nullifies the need for slot receiver. Other than that select few occasions where Jets O goes spread, there just won't be a place for that slot receiver to play; RB (Greene/Tomlinson/Leon)/ WRx2(Edwards/Cotchery)/ TE(Keller/Hartsock) and QB. Now Jets have one more spot to fill - who would you pick? That rookie slot receiver or T-Rich? I'd go T-Rich every day of the week, and twice on Sundays. I seriously don't think Jets should be drafting a WR. Be it a split end or slot receiver, WR is but a luxury for Jets now, not a necessity.
