I think I'll take the trade-off for a safety that actually commits to an assignment, instead of tripping over his own feet trying to read the QB. Too many times in 2009 I saw Rhodes fail to commit to an assignment, only to get there too late. Glaring examples are the TD pass over the middle to the TE in the Chargers game, and the Revis/Moss interception in the 1st Pats game where Rhodes barely got there in time to be in Revis' poster. He was easily manipulated by QBs for the majority of the season. I'm so glad he's gone. It's odd, he had come a long way in '06 and '07, and he regressed a ton in '08 and '09. I was browsing Cards forums and found someone posted his scouting profile. Take a look at the Negs - that fits Kerry in 2009 perfectly. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/historical/419435?tag=pageRow;pageContainer
They're very similar, but in all honesty how many Browns games did any of us watch. We'll get a much better feel for him after Rex gets his slim hands on him. Unlike Kerry he's not "Hollywood" so he should do great with Rex.
That about sums it up. haha nice. I'll add: points the finger instead of taking the blame and bettering himself. I don't know what happen to the Kerry Rhodes of old, but something happened and his attitude turned into me me me. I do remember when we lost to the Pats in the playoffs, I thought Kerry played like a top safety in the league. We all argued that he should have made the pro bowl over john lynch. He had that awesome video with him and Vilma studying film together. He had so much promise, but somewhere his head grew and now just thinks he's hollywood star bound, bigger than the game and his team. Pool light em' up, but protect yourself.
oh dont get me confused man I was just giving some points to the OP as to what Rhodes would be better at than Poole. Thats being said, I've seen plenty of Poole and I actually excitedly picked up the phone to tell a friend when it happened cuz like Tanny I believe "this is a bigger pickup than people think". Its his medical history that makes him a stop gap. My friend's reply (hes more of a diehard NCAA fan who follows his favorite players in the NFL, big Jets fan though) "wow really? Brodney Poole is like the only player I've ever heard make plays in CLE aside from Edwards. they must really like losing" your TOTALLY right about committing to his assignment. Rhodes floated around trying to read. Poole wont present that problem. He'll hit a hole hard or float coverage one way, for better or worse. so cliche but so true "if your going to make a mistake make it at a 100 percent"
Since his last concussion he is always forgetting to put in the "h". Its great to be counting on a guy, "Poole" that has no chance of not being hurt and out for multiple games.
We're all worried about Pool's susceptibility to concussions, but don't you think he's a little worried himself? He may not be as agressive as he used to be, which is one of the main risks here. We still would have to draft a safety high in the draft regardless.
Exactly, I sign off on this post 100%. Pool's injuries are not only going to guarantee a limited NFL career, they will probably limit his lifespan as well. It sucks, because I love having punishing safeties, and while Pool may not be the type of ballhawking centerfielder that I'd like to see back there, if Cromartie steps up as a solid #2 CB, we're not going to need a dominant centerfielder in 2010. We can make do with a collection of safeties like we have until the 2011 draft rolls around, or until a solid ballhawk safety hits the FA market in 2011. I'd still like to see us pick up a corner in the draft, as well as an edge rusher and a NT. Fuck the offense in 2010. I want our defense to rape the entire league.
I agree. The reason I hate Rhodes is not because of his softness though it doesnt help. The guy is fucking stupid and Jim is always yelling at him to move to the right position. Hes completely missed coverage numerous times resulting in big plays. I remember also the Jaguar game with the TD drive to win the game where Rhodes missed coverage on a 45 yardish pass. If Pooles concussions havent made him completely retarded he will be better then Rhodes.
I think to biggest problem Rhodes had was his unwillingness to have some new guy come in and tell him how to do his job. I would bet that half the times Leonhard was yelling his assignment to him, he heard him just fine and ignored him.
If thats true I hope Matt Leinart fucks him with a cactus. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that it was the noise was the reason he couldnt hear him but I really can see that as true. He wouldnt listen to Thurman of course he wouldnt listen to Leonhard.
2 years ago this would not have even been a debate. It would be Rhodes easily. As of now I would still rather have Rhodes as a player but Poole is a better fit.
POOL Not Poole....that was a typo on the main page when it said "Poole" But yeah, Rhodes is a pussy and Pool can hit...don't care about potential, Pool gives production when he's out there while Kerry prances around trying not to get dirty.
Um....yes, it does. A doctor once told me that athletes tend to develop a predisposition toward concussions once they have been concussed.
Right. There were times when every Jets fan held their collective breath. The thing is, all of those times were immediately following something happen. It's not like we were all sitting there every time Chrebet was out wide thinking "OMG, is this the one?!" You worry when you see the guy go down. That's human. Worrying before he even puts on a jersey is the type of thing that makes people think your aluminum hat must be hot in the summertime. General medical consensus is that one leaves you more susceptible to more. There are tons of ongoing studies now to get to the truth. Recently a number of NFL retirees agreed to donate their brains to science when they die to study this. Romanowski was one of them, though I'm wondering if they have a powerful enough microscope to view it.
Then I stand corrected. I thought they were just concerned about the cumulative damage of further concussion, not an increased likelihood of recurrence.
http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/concussion?page=1 Outlook A person with a single, isolated concussion generally has a very good outcome with few long-term side effects. * Short-term side effects o Postconcussive syndrome is typically seen in about 10% of people who have a concussion. It is more common after a serious concussion than after a mild one. The main symptom is persistent headache for 1-2 weeks, lasting up to months after the injury. Symptoms usually are relieved with mild pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil). o Sometimes people with postconcussive syndrome will have dizziness or difficulty concentrating or problems doing certain types of activities such as reading. o Nausea and vomiting may occur. o Postconcussive syndrome usually goes away on its own with time. Some people may have symptoms that do not go away, even after months. In this situation, your doctor should be contacted. Sometimes special tests (such as an MRI or cognitive function testing) or consultations are used to assess this problem. * Long-term side effects o Concussions are known to be cumulative. That is, each time you have a concussion it easier to get another concussion in the future. o Also, repeated concussions can lead to long-term memory loss, psychiatric disorders, and other neurologic problems. o If you have had a number of concussions, your physician likely will advise you to avoid the activities that may put you at risk for future head injuries and to discontinue contact sports. Professional boxers and football players are particularly prone to the effects of cumulative concussions. So yes, having multiple concussions make it easier to get them.
