Apparently I didn't post in the thread NDMick presented here, but I do recall writing that the trade seemed to be a steal for the Jets. I didn't like the Shonn Greene pick and actually wanted the Jets to draft Austin Collie. I must have been posting in some other draft thread. With the draft, all of us are going to wind up looking good at times and looking bad at times. Similar laughs can be had when looking at 2006, 2007, and 2008 draft threads. I didn't look at too much in the 2009 thread cited above, but I did find some gems, such as this one-
My favorite is "NYJETSRULE" criticism Sanchez: Originally Posted by nyjetsrule View Post Say goodbye to the future gentlemen this has cost us a fortune and now his Avatar is Sanchez celebrating after a TD...
Your track record isn't too promising. That Jared Odrick prediction scares the crap out of me. I think the Jets are going to go BPA...which might be McCourty. I'd rather go Alualu in rd 2.
His track record is bad, but at least he has the balls to step up and post in this thread. I'd rather someone take his lumps like a man then avoid things. I'd be interested in what those others have to say a year later. One thing we do know for sure, Tanny is going to go out and do what he feels is best to improve the on feild product. Right now I'd say the majority of the time he does it very well. Its a good time to be a Jets fan right now.
Firemanedjr ALWAYS stands up for his posts. That's why I only give him shit in jest now. He's a vital part of this board by now, even if some people have longer memories than they should.
In all fairness, I never disliked Greene as a player, just didn't think it made sense to trade our entire second day for a guy who would've been third-string with two healthy and good backs ahead of him. I think part of my Gilbert mancrush was the collective adoration of this board and when I saw him there and that we had traded up, I got excited. And, admittedly, it was hard to definitively put my trust in a braintrust that had just taken Vernon Gholston 6th overall. But now, no matter what, in Tanny I trust. But my faith in Kellen Clemens was entirely misplaced. Sanchez looks like a legitimate franchise QB. Though it's not like Crabtree stunk up the joint, either. I guess it just boils up to me being a pessimist. I've seen this franchise screw up a lot more than it's succeeded--we all have, and so I've got the tendency to pan every big move. For the first time in my life, the Jets are on the upswing and knocking at the door of greatness--I can't imagine that the fanbase was this optimistic back in 1999 coming off the loss to Denver, but with this young core, this coaching staff, well, you've got to leave that SOJ mentality behind. [And, for the record, Jared Odrick is going to be a good one.]
We got 2 franchise / potential pro bowlers out of this draft. If we get even 1 franchise stud out of this year's draft we're practically a lock for another championship game.
I remember being so happy that my eyes got sweaty and my wife foolishly thinking that I was about to shed a tear.
I know you and I aren't far in age... we've seen the best of this franchise minus its SB run in the 60s. The true horror was the entire 70s and most of the late 80s/early90s
Yeah, it's pretty scary that even though I've never seen this team reach a Super Bowl, and, until this year, hadn't really been a fan to even see an AFC Championship Game, that I've still witnessed the Jets best, say, 10-year run in its history. In a decade, we'll be looking back and laughing.
