This White History Moment has been brought to you by Jack Daniels. When it's time to go dancing, don't forget to bring Jack.
Why in the world would you want Thomas Jones to carry the ball for most of the game and THEN turn it over to Greene? Jones was middling to dreadful most of the time in the 1st half of our games this season. Of his 14 TDs, only 4 of them came in the first half of games. I find it hilarious that people want to know whether we can rely on Greene when we don't know if we could continue to rely on Jones! In fact, I'd say there's more evidence that the latter prospect is more suspect. He's always been known as the kind of back who needs to get his carries to heat up. That left him in a tough position with us. We needed him to be a role player and worried about putting too many carries on his legs, but he generally needed carries in order to succeed. So, either we bank on him finding success in a way he hasn't his entire time here, or we run him into the ground and watch his legs fall off around Week 12. There wasn't a way to keep Jones fresh and keep him successful. The team could have taken a risk on him and used 4 backs if he came somewhat cheaply, but there was no way in hell they were going to pay $6 million to find that out. We'll draft a replacement back in the draft, most likely early on. At worst, we'll get the same exact production we'd have gotten from Jones this season as a situational runner: 3 - 3.5 YPC. At best, we'll find a dominant back to pair with Greene and Leon to actually keep them all fresh.
Well, this bit from Rotoworld this morning changes things: As I've said all along, there was no way in hell the Jets were going to pay him $6 million only to use him part time and draft another back. I assumed it was a pride issue that kept Jones from signing here at a reduced rate, but it looks like I was wrong. The Jets failed to match Kansas City's offer. I may have agreed with the cut, but I definitely don't agree with this. If we could have brought him back at that cheap rate, we sure should have.
I just read that as well. I'm surprised. I guess they want someone who has better hands out of backfield is my only guess.
maybe the Jets simply wanted more versatility in the backfield. I'm not going to make excuses for either side...because the deal is done....so nothing is going to change. But i'm glad Jones is gone...and I'm quite confident KC's oline is going to expose the real reason why TJ was released.....
That's a bit unfair. I think we would have to project his performance a little bit considering he's now a backup in KC. I would think if he finishes the year with...700-800 yds, and his ypc fall somewhere between 3.8-4.0, then I'd have to believe he would've had another solid year with our O and would've helped us out greatly (keeping Greene/LW fresh for the POs) for his last year. And if he doesn't, then he was truly done, and the Jets FO made the right call.
life is unfair, rmags.....that's just the nature of the beast. like i said...it doesn't matter anymore....because he's gone and we'll never know.
Then let me save you the trouble of waiting for the KC OL to prove u right. TJ is garbage and he's done.
That's a very classy thing to do, particularly since it isn't like he has been here his entire career, or led the team to the Super Bowl.
