You tell me that my reasoning why we have the edge over the Vikes, LT wanting a ring and looking for the best situation to get it, is a poor reason but then say one of the reasons he is going to want to play for the Jets is because they have a new stadium? Seriously? Seeing what the Jets could do included seeing the O line and the wholes they were opening.
Despite the possibility that free-agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson will take other visits next week, it's our clear understanding in the wake of his visit to Minnesota on Thursday that he most likely will choose either the Vikings or the Jets. One source with knowledge of the situation believes it will be a "close call" and that the Vikings did a "good job" of wooing the 2006 NFL MVP. (Jim Trotter of SI.com reported last night that the Vikings "wowed" Tomlinson, and that the Jets will "have to bring it" on Friday. Jets coach Rex Ryan surely will make a big-talking, rah-rah push on Friday, and Tomlinson's connection to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer can't hurt. In the end, we think the decision will be driven by Tomlinson's assessment regarding which team is more likely to get to the Super Bowl in 2010. Given the quality of the rest of the AFC, the Vikings seem to have the better chance of qualifying. Either way, if Tomlinson picks one of these two teams he'll get a chance to face the other one this season. Under the league's scheduling formula, the Jets will be hosting the Vikings during the 2010 season. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...kely-will-come-down-to-minnesota-or-new-york/
just saying those two and thats it comes across as poor reasoning. when you put it in as a whole they are ok. and i did mention playing behind the best offensive line in football... but it is really almost 100% favre comes back. i mentioned the new stadium bc it goes witht he whole package and leaves a great impression. when ur looking at what couple be ur new home and see a brand new top of the line stadium it leaves a nice impression
yeah i doubt he even makes it too the other visits next weekend the deal will be done by the end of today. but wont be with us. i strongly believe he is using up to drive up the vikes price and will sign there by the end of today
I think this is the case as well. It'd be silly of us to sign him to a moderate deal when we could have just kept Jones. I doubt LT is a Jet - he'll be wearing purple. And that isn't a bad thing for us.
why wouldn't we match that Jones offer? I know we only would want him for one more year but at that low price we could have released him after this year.
Maybe they think b/c LT is better in short yardage and better catching passes he can be more valuable? I'm not sure but when you factor in Jones having younger legs(carries wise) and being a team leader the move didn't make much sense.
It seems silly. There must be more to the story than we know. Either they're convinced he's completely useless at this point, or there are other internal issues.
We have a bruiser named Shonn Greene. If the Jets are bringing LT in for a look, you seem to have no idea what 'we' are looking for. As far as the Jets trying to sign Tomlinson, I have kind of mixed emotions on it. He was running behind a shit O-line for the past couple of seasons, and he is obviously dinged up, but he brings a lot to the table as a 3rd down back. He can block, he is an excellent receiver out of the backfield, and he brings a lot of versatility. Schotty has a background with him. I would have thought that if we were going this route, that the Jets would have done as much as they could to bring back TJ, but maybe that rift was unbridgable after the Jets gave all of his carries to Greene in the postseason. I thought about this in passing last week after TJ hit the pavement. The Jets do need a veteran that can handle 3rd down duties. I don't think I'd be extremely disappointed to see Tomlinson in a Jets uniform.
Maybe Jones' pride was hurt when the Jets gave his carries to Greene in the playoffs. There were rumors that he had issues with his knee, but TJ has played through injury before. He went from being the premier back to being an afterthought in the offense.
I'd say the leadership qualities between the 2 are probably a wash. Jones is probably still a more efficient RB, while LT is better at catching the ball out of the backfield. What probably sways everything into LT's favor is that he'll sell more jerseys. The only other factor I could think of is whether LT will accept a 1 year deal, while Jones may have insisted on 2 years.
it makes no sense. we have LW coming back this year. he can catch passes out of the backfield and will most certainly be our 3rd down back. and thats a great point about TJ having the younger legs. people can't possibly want to get rid of jones because "he's been ran into the ground", and then want to bring in LT.
I think pride comes into it, but only because of his contract. Not sure how much 'face' he would have lost if he had come back, too much for TJ though.
I doubt he signs anywhere for a 1 year deal. If he signs with the Jets, you can bet it's going to be for 2.
It became clear that Jones didn't have the ability to pick up the slack after Greene went down in the Colts game. The Jets must think that LT would do a much better job of being able to step up and replace Greene if he went down. Something that can't be ignored is that LT offers a similar package to what Leon does. Maybe the Jets would be bringing in LT to replace Washington thinking that Leon won't be here next year. They have usually gone the route of bringing in a replacement before saying goodbye to somebody so it's a possibilty that they are making plans for life w/o Leon. If that's the case they can still bring in another guy to replace what Jones was going to be utlized for this year.
