Tiki Barber gained weight about three seasons in and became the Giants' lead back in his fourth season. The fumbling problems were there, even with the added weight. He changed the way he carried the ball to fix that problem. Barber had an extra two inches of height and a better frame to put on the weight. I think Washington's frame is maxed out under 200 pounds.
So, if all he musters is an offer of $3 million per, you think the Jets will pass? I'm all for taking the pick if someone overpays, but your absolute certainty seems a bit foolhardy.
I don't give a damn if someone underpays for Washington, I think he should be shipped out. 3 millions dollars is a lot of money for a backup running back...I think that money would be better invested in a new contract for Revis, Mangold, Edwards, or Ferguson. Even though the Jets went to the AFC Championship game, we're still building. Rex Ryan is building HIS team. The defense and Mark Sanchez are the focal points of this team now. Tannenbaum and Ryan are going to build this team into a perennial contender. I love the fact that we're getting young at a lot of positions. I'm not certain of anything. I'm not saying he WILL be traded. I'm saying he SHOULD be traded.
You have to stop assuming the reasoning behind others opinions. It's OK to ask. The reason why I feel they have similar styles has nothing to do with them being small. If you watch as much college football as your posts would suggest, you would know they are both extremely quick, have long speed, have great agility, can make defenders miss in open space, can stop on dime, catch the ball out of the backfield, dangerous in the kick return game...etc, etc, etc. That's besides their size similarities. Honestly, I have a hard time figuring out how their styles differ.
Feely's kicking percentage with the Jets: 2008: 85.7 2009: 83.3 Doug Brien's kicking percentage with the Jets: 2003: 84.4 2004: 82.8 Yea, Feely was awesome.
im all for dumping LW,, i think he will NEVER be the same after the tib/fib Fx....besides id like a motherf*cking truck back like a Bettis kinda guy...thats Rex's style anyway.....any 260lb RB's in this draft that can pound?
Jahvid Best is much more dangerous in the open field as a running back. I don't get why everyone assumes he's a big time receiving threat out of the backfield, because he didn't catch many passes at Cal. I'll admit that I'm very skeptical of Golden Bear running backs, but Jahvid Best really intrigues me. I've spent the past couple days looking over the top five or six running backs and he's just a nasty player. The kid is just nasty in the open field. I'd even go so far to say he's a more dangerous player than Clemson's CJ Spiller. I'm really starting to understand the Chris Johnson comparisons. Best isn't an angry runner like Johnson is, but he's just as explosive and has better vision than Johnson did at the college level.
Mississippi State's Anthony Dixon and Oregon's LaGarrette Blount aren't exactly that heavy, but they are probably the best pure power backs in this draft besides Stanford's Toby Gerhart.
Give or take 5 years? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...ls/preview/2005/08/02/nfl.workout.barber0808/ Since February 2004 he has been training Barber in a spartan West Paterson, N.J., gym, and the eighth-year NFL vet has gained 18 pounds of muscle. I said he gained the weight to "help" the fumbling problem not that it solved it. Maybe but MJD is an inch shorter and is able to carry an extra 10lbs. He may be able to spread the weight out with some added to the lower body as Tiki did.
That's an interesting article (good find). When Barber came into the league he was barely 180 pounds. When he finally took over as New York's starter, he weight over 195. I think he finished his career around 205 to 210. Jones-Drew has a bigger lower body than a lot of defensive linemen. I hate when people (especially Alvin Keels) compare Washington to the much, much, much better Jones-Drew.
Hold on a min Mr E. The guy was coined a "role" player by the Mangini regime and consequently did not get the touches to prove otherwise. Just when Shott was getting him involved he broke his foot. Regardless if he is a "role" or "star" player, his contributions to the offense and special teams were substantial. I can accept you saying he's done and the Jets should dump him, but don't undermine his contributions.
Again it would help to ask rather than "assume" that everyone is assuming. Although Best did not catch a lot of passes at Cal, it is clear from the receptions he had and the type of routes Cal had him running that (e.g., wheel routes) he is very comfortable as a receiver. Considering that most college backs are not usually involved much in the passing game, I think Best has better than average number career receptions. He has more receptions coming out college than Leon did despite only playing only 2 1/2 seasons to Leon's 4.
if someone picks up leon washington then we should sign LT...Our O-Line could hold him up for a couple of seasons
I'm not undermining anything. Leon Washington was a great return specialist and a good change-of-pace back. Keyword: was Schottenheimer used him more under Mangini than he did under Ryan, so I don't see what your point is with that? Also, he didn't break his foot. He broke his leg, and it was a very serious injury.
I just read Mia Harris's blog. She said to look for New England to make a run, considering they have additional second rounders. I'm even fine with that. Even if he hurts us a few times. He was an outstanding Jet. But you always have to move forward with younger players. He came in as a #4, and he may leave as a #2 coming off a bad injury. Thumb's up.
I didn't assume anything. You said he was a good receiver out of the backfield, and there's no way to prove that. The only backs in this draft that should be considered proven receivers are Spiller, McCluster, and Starks. I don't care how many receptions Washington had in his career at FSU. The two backs played in completely different offenses.
I don't remember Tiki coming into the league that light. http://www.nytimes.com/1997/04/20/s...ants-pick-receiver-hilliard.html?pagewanted=1 Fassel did not rule out that Barber (5-9 203) could be an every-down back. Emmitt Smith is the same height and only six pounds heavier. You seem to hate a lot of things. The operative word was "maybe". Tiki was able to get bigger in his lower body through a heavy workout regiment so in theory Leon probably could too. Just saying. I'm already on record as saying that I don't think Leon can carry the load based on just looking at him but that's just an opinion.
He was that light. If you're claiming he gained 18 pounds in his eighth year, then he would be 220 pounds, and he clearly wasn't that big. Don't compare Leon Washington to backs like Tiki Barber and Maurice Jones-Drew, and I won't "hate" on your posts.
