    This

Funny thing this may be a bigger loss than Jones or perish the thought, Rhodes.

Gotta agree with you here...doesn't make much sense to me. Then again, I'm not an NFL GM.

Yeah, this is the first departure I truly don't agree with.

I didn't like any of them, but this is the one I don't understand. Hopefully he got a stupid contract.

The only way I can make sense of this is that Tanny thinks he'll get a contract large enough to sign a UFA he's got his eye on?

I'm not going to say it sucks until I find out what he signed for, but he was a beast on special teams and a good blocking WR.

What don't people get? He was a UFA and was offered a deal by another team, so what? Did you think they were going to protect him?

I'm not saying I like seeing TJ gone, but I thought it was the right move. I was glad to see KR gone, but wanted better compensation. This one? Just a sad head scratcher.

I don't understand why the Jets didn't make a strong effort to re-sign him.

My guess is this happened for 2 reasons - (i) Jets have too many receivers (remember that they have the guy from Minnesota they picked up late last year on waivers who came down with a phantom injury late in TC last year and spent the entire year on IR) and (ii) now the jets have the flexibility to get a free agent who hasn't been released. If they intend to get Coles again, it makes even more sense as with Wright and Coles they'd have 7 receivers, including the one from Minnesota). This does, however, weaken the special teams.

I doubt this was a money issue as he couldn't have been making very much.

I really liked what Wright brought as a STs gunner, but what has me scratching my head is the memorial service we are having in this thread for a Special Teams player.

He was a one-dimensional player eating up a roster spot in a pretty thin WR corps, and as much as I liked him, they are a dime a dozen in that unit, and our STs coach has the best eye for those players of any STs coach in the league.

We are keeping Brad Smith, our other top notch gunner, and obviously Westhoff has an answer either existing on our roster or in FA - or he has his eye on some late-round STs types in the draft.

    These guys come and go.
