According to the National Football Post, Limas Sweed "doesn't have a future with the Steelers."

It's notable that the team is conducting business as if Sweed isn't even on the roster. With Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward, and Mike Wallace locked in as receivers Nos. 1-3, the Steelers pursued Arnaz Battle as a potential No. 4 and special teams help. Sweed may not even make the club out of training camp.

I know he hasnt been the best of WRs in the Pitt, but he definitely has the size and speed to be productive in the slot. Yeah he got beat out by Mike Wallace, has dropped some big catches..but whos to say a change in scenery wouldnt benefit his career.

At a lower price tag, nothing if he gets cut by TC, he seems like a reasonable enough solution. What do you guys think?

Heres a little scouting report coming out of Texas

Strengths: A true possession receiver that is going to go over the middle and make all the catches…Is an enormous target with good strength…Has been a very consistent target and is a team leader…A clutch player…Will move the chains…Is a good blocker and displays good technique…Above-average athleticism…Good character.

Weaknesses: Doesn’t have very good speed...Not a deep threat…Is his production inflated due to Texas’ spread offense?...Route running needs to be a little more polished…Doesn’t get a lot of separation…More of a No. 2 receiver than a No. 1…Very little upside.

Thoughts: I don’t really see Sweed being a top-20 pick in the 2008 Draft because he lacks the timed speed, but should go late in the first round…That said, I think he is going to be a very safe pick for some team next season.

Player Comparison: Terrell Owens (better character).

The Jets can not sign him unless he is outright cut.

LOL. When I saw the news yesterday, I KNEW someone would make this thread. Sweed isn't going to get cut for months, if at all, and I definitely wouldn't want to give up a pick for him.

limas sweed would just be another intricate part of brian schottenheimer's offensive scheme. he needs to turn his career around and playing in new york would help that if he stays healthy

Wow...I just realized he has 7 catches in two years. He was considered the top WR prospect before the 2008 draft and a lot of people were high on him on TGG. I wouldn't mind taking a good deep look at him if he gets cut.

I wouldn't be opposed to the Jets giving him a workout (provided that the Steelers do indeed cut him).....Tanny likes to explore all options, which i readily support.

However,....Sweed's work ethic has been under fire in Pitt since he arrived in the NFL. He's got a penchant for dropping easy passes (we already have a guy that fills that role )......so it would certainly be a tough sell.

Thread was just made to discuss the option..

thats pretty much the only way id consider him on this team..

I mean he does have the height and strength to be at least a threat in the RZ

Sorry, I'm really not dissing the thread. He's not the worst option someone could suggest. I just thought it was funny that my first thought reading the news yesterday was that someone on here would create a thread about him.

What deal? There's no deal talked about, only speculation about whether he could work out here if he's cut at some point.

    No...fucking no. Horrible idea.

Sweed is in no way a slot guy, besides the fact the the Steelers hate him and he will not do what it takes to be a pro.

Long strides and curving off routes is not a good slot receiver. Sweed can go start his next career now, becuse he's done in profootball.

He has about 60 career yards. Seems like a practice squad guy to me. Pass. Rather just draft somebody.

just sign coles on the CHEAP, or gamble the draft.
