That kind of logic is exactly why I don't see any team in the league tendering Leon for a 2nd. I just can't see it. Plus, they gotta deal with his agent. :rofl:Good luck to the team that wants to deal with Master P.

Well, Toby Gerhart and Leon Washington are completely different players.

Washington offers value as a return specialist and as a change-of-pace back, while Gerhart is purely a between the tackles power runner.

The only player in this draft that has a similar style to Washington is Dexter McCluster.

All of the things that Leon Washington can bring to these teams are already being handled Percy Harvin, LeSeaon McCoy and DeSean Jackson.

The kick returning duties are being handled by Harvin and Jackson, but neither of the teams have backup running backs.

I'm not comparing the two as players just saying a 2nd round pick (based on the information I've seen from posters like you, WW, and Machine) seems like steep price for a guy who's game is explosiveness, and who knows how the rehabilitation is going to go? Is a team willing to give up what seems like a valuable price for that question? That's what it boils down to. If he doesn't (gruesomely, I may add) break his leg, this thread and question would never exist.

only Leon and the front office know how well his recovery is going. Leon Washington is a game changer when he gets his hands on the ball and his skillset is unique. Without knowing how bad his injury is MONTHS after it happened, I would say we could win or lose with only a 2nd round pick.

KEEP LEON ... he's worth the gamble

There are other backs they can look into for that. At this point, coming off of the injury, I would value Leon less as a back-up HB than as a special teamer/pass catcher. He was great in the return game and great in open space. The Eagles already have that receiving threat out of the backfield in McCoy, along with the ability to take handoffs between the tackles. If I'm the eagles then I definitely wouldn't be looking to give up a 2nd for Leon Washington when the same pick got me my starter last year.

    This

I keep hearing about what a wonderful draft this is. But, first of all, no matter how good all of these players look, you never know how that will translate to the pros. And, secondly, as this post says, instead of being able to draft BPA or strengthen the lines, we're just going to have to use up all the picks to fill holes we just created. With Rhodes and Leon, we draft BPA and strengthen the OL and DL. Without Rhodes and Leon, we reach to find a safety and a playmaking HB who, for all we know, will be worse than Rhodes and Leon when they reach the pros.

Yeah without Leon we have to draft a hb. However we GET A 2ND ROUND PICK. Therefore it doesnt effect the other draft picks at all.

    Good point.

We should be drafting a HB anyway, regardless of whether or not Leon leaves. We can find a KR/Slot WR who can take over his other duties in the draft, positions we also needed(slot WR anyway) and should have drafted. If we can pick up McCluster with the 2nd round pick we could get for Leon, I would say that we upgraded the position.

Or, we could use that particular draft pick to sure up the OLine or DLine.

I love Leon but he should have jumped on the deal when he had a chance. He got greedy.

I would take a 2nd round pick in a heart beat.

the late rounds always have offensive line talent that can be developed. we don't need any new starters next year and we are already developing slauson, so if they grab another lineman or two late and/or undrafted they will be in good shape. we don't need to draft guys on the offensive line side that are going to be ready to start from day one.

Either way, IMO, we can't lose. It's the best of situations we could hope for here. We either get Leon or we get a valuable pick. We all know what Leon can do when he is healthy.

If Leon gets an offer sheet, his health will dictate what we do. they are monitoring is progress and if they think he is going to come back and be the player he was, they will likely bring him back because he is more valuable then what a second round pick when healthy. If they let him go i would have some serious concerns about the leg.

The other impact on this is with so many contracts up next year, they have to prioritize who they want to bring back. getting a 2nd round pick would be worth it if they dont think they can afford his contract along with revis, mangold, ferguson, harris, etc.

I'm surprised how many people would trade him away for a second round pick..

With that being said, I don't think many teams will throw a big offer sheet at a guy coming off of a major injury and give up a 2nd round pick in a very talented draft class.

I think he adds another dimension to the offense and I want him back.
