Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

The "such Club" refers to the team the player was with in 2009. That's it. Those are the only UFAs we can sign: our own.

I hope he has a plan. The only thing about getting a 4th for Rhodes is to piss Rhodes off by making him feel like hes only worth a 4th rounder. Maybe Tanny wanted any extra pick to help trade up for someone which we all know he loves to do. 1st 4th 5th for an earlier 1st maybe.

Mike Tannenbaum's philosophy is pretty clear at this point:

    1. Get the players you want in the draft by whatever means necessary.

    2. Don't be afraid to let a veteran free agent walk even if you don't have a replacement yet.

    3. Don't let money be the hangup in pursuing free agents.

    4. Depth is less valuable than frontline talent and should be sacrificed if need be to obtain a starter.

Those are the cornerstones that I see. The overall result of the philosopy is a team that has gone 32-32 over the four years that he has been running the show. Two playoff appearances, one also-ran and one dog. That sounds about right.

Hopefully the trend of the last two years is predictive of success in the future.

With any luck the Jets won't be drafting that high for a long time so they won't have to worry about paying ridiculous money to the top 5-6 slots...

Keep in mind that the number one player on any team is the quarterback. In the Tannenbaum era, we've had Pennington for two years, one average, one shitshow. Favre was good until he got banged up. His success in Minnesota helps validate the risk Tannenbaum took and validates Favre saying he was hurt.

And now, we have a rookie QB who looks like the man of the future. The two playoff appearances, one also-ran, and one dog all had pretty mediocre QB play. If Sanchez can improve and be the guy, there's no reason the trend shouldn't continue.

If Sanchez develops than Tannenbaum will have a pretty good legacy.

one element that is always missing when we talk about our GM and the dicisions he makes is any consideration what-so-ever beyond our first home game.

being a successful GM over many years means ALWAYS having one eye 2-3 years down the road.

i'm sure tanny has a huge gant chart on the wall with every player, every players entire contract, every upcoming FA from other teams, and even the top rated college prospects over the next 1-2 seasons.

from tanny's point of view, it's way more complicated than just 'this season'. a good GM makes wise choices we can live with for the next 2-4 years.

for example, by NOT extending a new contract to Braylon or Cromartie, perhaps tanny knows something we don't about who will be coming out next season that would come play for us.

when tanny traded up for greene, we all said WTF. but tanny knew TJ was on his way out long b4 we knew and did something about it.

bottom line, in tanny we trust. instead of ripping apart a trade like rhodes, say 'i wonder what tanny knows that we don't that makes this a good thing to do'.

There are certain players on this team that we can't succeed without. We have not lost any of these players so far this offseason.

one Tanny tenet you all are forgetting: voidables and escalators make everyone happy. No one gets ripped off, no one gets a steal, we pay for performance.

I actually believe that Mangini called the shot here. Once Woody got sick of him Tannenbaum became the real boss. I believe that I read VG was a Mangini call. How dumb to draft a guy number 6 and then have him change positions.
