We have heard him say many times that he wants to have needs addressed before the draft that way he doesn't have to reach. The board will dictate the Jets pick. That being said, I believe he has a plan prior to the draft fo a safety. Remember Sharper was an after thought with the Saints last year. Trust the GM, he is one of the best.

i agree, i strongly believe that something is in the works over there in our front office. i would totally be for bringing in sharper for a year and draft a project. it is very unlike them to get rid of a starting player and not have a replacement in mind.

OJ Atogwe would be the best-case scenario (Rams tendered him a first-right of refusal). That being said I wouldn't mind bringing in a vet.

The problem with Sharper is that he probably wants to stay in NO and his priority is there, unless we offer him more money. But the #1 defense and Rex might draw him in. Either way, we definitely draft a safety.

And the only problem with Atogwe would be another expiring 2011 contract.

Do yuu all not understand that Sharper cannot be signed do to Final 8 and Final 4 restrictions? It has been stated time and time again on this messageboard. The only way this is possible is if a players contract expires that's salary will equal Sharpers wanted salary. Our highest so far was Feely with 1.2 mil and I dnt think Sharper is a fool to sign that low.

I love the idea of Atogwe but he would be offered a contract by the Jets via offer sheet

Tannenbaum is very adept at using his skill set of bluffs, screens, poker face and negotiating. Overall I'm pleased with the job he has done. The Gholston issue has happened to every team in the league although in most cases it ends up being a quarterback who falls flat. I do think Tannenbaum learned a big lesson from Gholston's contract and highly doubt any rookie will ever see a contract like that in the future.

Can someone define this "First to refusal" thing on OJ Atogwe. I've never heard of it.

haha. I'm hating this final 4 stuff. It limits our options way too much.

I'm pretty sure that's the lowest tender you can place, but you can match the offer sheet another team gives the player. Something along those lines.

I understand the rules. The point being Mike T is prepared and Sharper was not plan A.

I was under the impression that the final 4 restrictions did not apply to FA's we signed from other final 4 teams? As I understood it, we were free to sign UFA's from Indy, NO or Minn on a business as usual basis without being subject to those restrictions and vice versa...

sharper is currently in talks with NO and is expected to sign there...

oj atogwe is coming to the jets....there is simply NO way they trade rhodes for a 4th and then leave a gaping hole at FS...there is no way they address that in the draft if you have a "capable" player under contract in the position anyway

I think a mod seriously needs to sticky something about who's eligible to be signed by us and who can't. If I see another poster link our name to Darren Sharper I'm gonna throw my computer screen out the window. WE CAN'T SIGN HIM. WE PRETTY MUCH CAN'T SIGN ANY UFAs!!!! That's exactly why Tanny's getting creative with his moves. That's all he really has. And, for the money Sharper's gonna be asking for and his age, some of you guys are out of your ever-loving minds to even want him. Sorry, for my little rant. But enough of this signing FAs shit.

I wouldn't mind Sharper for a season or two (tops), per se, but let's get real, he wants a 4 or 5-year deal worth BUCU bucks and he's going to get it from someone. Hopefully not us. Top 4 rules or no top 4 rules, it would be a big mistake. The kid from St. Louis, now we're talking. I do believe the Rams will match any offer, but we have to at least try to get OJ interested. There's def. something going on, and they have a plan.
