Plus he makes a damn good backup if somebody gets hurt. Especially since Linebackers get hurt all the time.
If a RFA has a 1st Round tender, in this case Bethea, is it possible another team can try to package a deal to trade for him? Could we offer (just as an example) Rhodes and, say, our R3 pick for Bethea? Or is there no getting around the R1 Pick?
I believe you can trade for them. I remember reading several times about people saying they expect people to try to trade for Marshall for lest than a 1st round pick. Not sure on that though. Either way the odds of Bethea being a jet are incredibly slim imo.
I'd say it is a total impossibility right now. Mostly because we do not have a 3rd round pick this season or next season.
Ya, that's why I specifically said "(just as an example)." I was trying to illustrate my question rather than leave it up to the way I [poorly] articulated it.
In theory, it could happen. Or, the Colts could just let him walk with the offer sheet and collect a first round pick instead. It would depend on wether or not they like Rhodes enough.
I'm split on this one. As a former safety its the one position that I really go deep on. Bethea on the right D will be a monster. VERY physical and smart player. His zone coverage skill set are superb, and if as I think we will play Revis and Cromartie on their own Islands then a good/great zone safety is essential, and Bethea fits that role. Is he worth a 1st rounder ? At 29 I say yes, any higher then no. But as someone else has already said, why give the Colts another 1st? Its not what we are acquiring thats the problem for me, its what we are letting go and to who. During the POs he played pretty well, 4 post season INTs. If anything is going to happen with Rhodes it will be before March 12th when hes due a $2M roster bonus
I agree, he's definitely worth the 29th pick but the fact it'd be going to the Colts makes me hesitate. At the end of the day you can't concern yourself with another teams FO.
