I wouldn't expect to see Jones' name come up until around or after the Draft. There are still a lot of better RB options available out there so interest in Jones is going to be late coming.
i hope and pray that we get something good for leon, and jones comes back at about a third of the cost to be our back-up(i dont think he will though, way too much pride. money over a bowl game?), then we can get us a good rb to go with greene in the draft.
did you see that rendition he did before the Cowboys/Eagles playoff game?....i nearly pissed myself. I posted the youtube link in the McNabb divided thread in the NFL forum. That shit is priceless.
You are 100% correct! I think it's a total no brainer to re-sign Jones. Again, the big things are that he rarely gets injured and he rarely fumbles. After Leon went down, he helped carry the team. And in the locker room, guys look to him as a role moden, which this team seems to need more and more. Sanchez supposedly considered him somewhat of a mentor. Woody has all the money in the world -- he can't give Jones his just due?
If the Jet elect to go with Greene and Washington, and one of them goes down with injury, then you will have wished that the billionaire paid the man. After a 1400 yard season, people are saying that this guy is washed up and old. That is insanity!
I know because you are so high on the Jones kool-aid you have been slurping on now that you probably have a hard time understanding that it will likely be very easy for us to bring in another decent back at a proper price to come in and join in our reindeer games. I doubt seriously that we will let Jones go and not pick up another back for at least depth purposes.
I'd be more worried about making sure our OL is resigned and happy... and filling in some depth there. Because the better your OL, the better your backs run. Great OL's make average backs look like super stars.
After two great seasons and hardly any fumbles and basically remaining injury-free, I'd say it's you who's GULPING the kool-aid! And if you think you just sign any lousy running back and he'll do equal to that, you're doing more than kool-aid shots! I love Woody, but his cheapskate attitude is going to harm the Jets much more than help.
After all the hysteria, hoopla, and overblown drama, Jets fan can breathe easy. According to a league source, the Jets are trying to resign Thomas Jones after his contract will be terminated on Friday. This report coming from PFT: On Friday, the New York Jets will cut running back Thomas Jones, in order to avoid paying him a $2.8 million roster bonus. But then the Jets will try to re-sign him, a league source tells us. The team’s ongoing interest in Jones makes sense, given the decision to apply only a second-round tender to Leon Washington.
Citing someone close to free agent Thomas Jones, SI's Jim Trotter reports that the running back is believed to be "too prideful" to re-sign with the team that formally released him Friday. Jones' market appeared heat up early Friday afternoon, but he hasn't been linked since to any team other than the Chiefs. The Jets would love to have Jones back as veteran insurance for new workhorse Shonn Greene, but the 31-year-old figures to land elsewhere, even if New York offers the most money.
We definitely need a dependable vet to replace Jones. Dependable being the key word here, meaning not injury or fumble prone. Two guys I feel could be had at a reasonable price: Kevin Faulk, NEP and Jerome Harrison, CLE.
Really, I thought this team had a chance to make it to the Super Bowl, but now I just think their cheapness and disloyalty to their players makes them pathetic!
Faulk would be a great pickup... I agree we need someone, but I don't think the market is all that bad that we can't work out getting someone in. They hysteria of it being the end of the Jets run or something is pretty knee-jerk. I trust this situation will work out for the best for everyone.
