Rhodes is young and healthy, Boldin is old and injured, Rhodes is way more valuable imo. Hell even Rhodes and our 6th for Boldin and their 4th could work for me. But Boldin - Rhodes straight up no fricken way, Boldin could have 2 or 3 years left before he ends up with Westbrook
Smith does well as the nickel OLB/3rd Safety. I know his coverage is a big liability. I should have made the bigger point saying that with Rhodes sitting, the team looked the same. I don't care who the played. This team can have a cheaper safety with a similar skill set and still be a great defense.
Yep. Forget deep coverage. We don't need nearly as much safety help with Revis and Cromartie at the corners. Leave Smith to handle the underneath routes, beat the shit out of receivers on short crosses, and aid in run support. I'd still like to see another safety brought in, but I wouldn't lose sleep over Smith's role increasing in the defense.
Landry for a 2nd rounder I could live with that. Im surprised they didnt tender him higher especially with the possibility of Reed retiring in the near future. When Rolle visits the Giants tomorrow, he should swing by Jets Headquarters and have a little chat with Rex. Im sure hed have a hard time passing up the chance to be a part of one of the greatest secondaries of all time.
If we can't get Rolle (and it looks like we won't), letting Rhodes go makes little sense. We don't need to create holes if when we don't have to. Motherfucker better come ready to play next season.
If I were convinced that he hasn't been permanently affected psychologically by that brutal 2008 injury, I'd agree. The Ravens just seem too unconvinced for me. Still, our 2nd rounder is so low that I wouldn't mind. If we do, I hope to God we can trade back from the first.
At this point, if the Jets can't get a 2nd or a high 3rd (which in this draft is basically a 2nd) then screw it keep Rhodes. He played well down the stretch and there's no needs to create a hole on the roster now
That would be ideal. Get a third for Rhodes, trade back from the first and pick up a 2nd and a third. 2nd round: OLB/HB 3rd round: OLine/DLine
That's assuming that Rhodes still wants to be here. I personally wasn't buying his schtick from his SNY appearance.
Agreed, no need for any bad apples. I'm hoping Arizona panics after Rolle holds up his Giants jersey next week and tosses us a 2nd round pick for Rhodes.
I think getting a 2nd and 3rd for the 29th pick is a bit unrealistic. A 2nd and 4th maybe, or even a 3rd + 4th. Cant see a team giving up a ton to barely move up.
OK...first the civil response: 2nd: OLB/HB 3rd: DLine 4th: OLine Now... 1. A 3rd and a 4th for a 1st? You have to be kidding me. GMs would be fired for giving up a first for that little. 2. Barely move up? Could you please define this "barely move up"?
Ok a 3rd and 4th is a bit of a stretch. But I think in this draft class a team would have to be NUTS to give up their 2nd and 3rd to move up to the 29th pick. I mean the start of the draft is usually where your elite guys go (Suh/Berry) and trading up pays a team the most value. But I think realistically for the 29th pick of the draft we should be grateful if we get a 2nd and 4th rounder.
I think Rhodes would love to be here. It's the biggest market in the world. I think there are a number of other big cities he'd love to play for, but I'm sure he sees a relaxed coach, a big city, and a good team. Why would he want to leave? Why wouldn't anyone want to be a Jet? My opinion is that he would love to stay in New York, but he wasn't fully adjusted to his role last year. It seemed he was usually the last guy over the top, the last line of defense. We didn't allow many big plays, and Rhodes was part of the reason why. However, he didn't make many plays. Obviously Ryan was upset about that, and he was skeptical about Rhodes's attitude, leading to the benching. I don't think Rhodes knew how to handle the benching and that really hit him hard. From the Jets' perspective, I think Tannenbaum would love to get a mid-3rd or better. I'd be fine with that because the one way the Cromartie trade changes my opinion on Rhodes is by thinking that's a lot of diva for one secondary (hell, even for one team). Let's not give Rhodes away though. Would you trade him away for what we got for Cromartie? I wouldn't. I want help for 2010 or bust.
Uh, no. Your "bit of a stretch" 3rd and 4th? That would be giving up AT LEAST twice as much value as we get. Our first round pick: #29 - 640 pts The 4th pick of Round 2: 540 pts The 4th pick of Round 4: 100 pts Unless it's a Top 4 team in the draft order, we should absolutely NOT be content with a 2nd and 4th. Ideally, we trade back to the middle of the 2nd round and pick up a 3rd in addition. Example: The 14th pick in the 2nd round: 440 pts The 14th pick in the 3rd round: 200 pts The ideal situation is moving into the middle of the round to recoup a 3rd rounder. Depending on who is on the board at the end of the 1st, it very well could happen.
I know I just said I want a mid-3rd or better. But with news that Otogwe is an RFA with no compensation, and with Antrell Rolle potentially being available, perhaps the Jets can sign one since it's an uncapped year, trade Rhodes away for whatever we can get, and treat it as a lateral move at safety, picking up a draft pick in the process?
I was really trying to avoid the draft pick value chart, that thing rarely works out true to form in actual trades. But you have the right idea. If someone is trading up four spots from the second, then we're not pulling in a 3rd. The point would be the trade back into the middle of the round to grab Norwood.
